I'm sick of hearing all this blanket negativity, but not one of you actually managing to explain why. I can give you loads of detailed reasons why I enjoy it, but the same few who offer NO constructive criticism about the show just don't seem able to argue against anything with any detail.

Why was this Christmas worse than the one which had Kirsty appear as maxs secret wife, or the one where Derek Branding died of a heart attack, or the one where a rape was used for a 'reveal' moment in the same episode that one of the shows most iconic scenes (kat/zoe) was shamelessly rehashed? What was so offensive about it, other than a lack of high drama, which, as a rule, does NOT go hand in hand with a lack of quality.

Was the character writing poor?, was it overly sappy or eye rollingly melodramatic? Was the story constructed of 'yeah right' moments? Those are the things that typically make for a poor episode of television, but I didn't see much of that happening?

It lacked drama..... normally tune in to Eastenders see them have a miserable time with show downs and drama....... What did we have this year.... Dot making friends with a cat

So it was different, and therefore bad, case closed Dot and the cat was a minor (and endearing) subplot and you know it.

Soo, Lee Carter didn't get arrested, Max didn't return, Phil didn't get the life saving surgery he's been waiting for for months, nobody was sending ominous gifts around the square, the Christmas party in the Vic was totally without charm AND Michelle Fowler didn't return?

I'm just not a fan of the new EP.... He's changed the feel of the show

Eastenders usually pulls its socks up during the festive season. This year its socks slipped right down to its toes.

There is nothing happening in it that interests me anymore. Watched for over 25 years and have now cancelled my series link
It is so slow, anything exciting is drawn out to the point of boredom
My favourite character used to be Sharon, she just isnt the same
Also liked Kathy, her come back has been poor
No Pat, no Peggy, no Kat
That ok?

LOVED it. I'm really enjoying the show, it's much more true to life and is a refreshing change. The mixture of drama and humour is perfect, and I feel closer to the characters than ever before. I especially enjoyed the Boxing Day episode, but all of the episodes over the festive season were enjoyable in my opinion.

Dot and Sharon's stories I liked, as with Michelle's return. The areas I felt really didn't work were the Christmas play and the sing song in the Vic. It just didn't work. Also the references to Dot and genitalia was just weird. EastEnders just cannot pull off warm and cosy Christmas. It does manage to pull misery at Christmas. It had strong points then some others that really didn't work. I'm all for less sensationalism but seeing Stacey Fowler all earth mother in a Christmas show with the cast singing Christmas songs, it's too much.

OK, liked the Michelle return, not sure how it will play out. Community feel of the episodes were good. Didn't like the rewriting of Sharon/Phil history when she was chatting to Chelle in the hospital.

But there were no explosions or car pile ups, or haunted fairgrounds, so yeah, nothing happened

I quite enjoyed it.

Made a change to not have some huge reveal on Christmas/Boxing Day.

I thought the Christmas Day ep flowed very well. I normally get bored during hour long episodes, but I never once got bored during the Christmas Day episode.

Edit. Noticed this is about last week.

No idea what episode is what, they all kind of blend together. So a good week.
