How many more times are they going to recycle the whinging Nicola getting annoyed with Jimmy and throwing him out storylines, I really wish they would make him man up and refuse to leave tell her to shut up and stop being such an attention seeking drama queen, but instead he has to give in every time with Rodney sticking his nose in every time you think even he would tell Nicola is being unreasonable and to shut up at least once.

I love Jimmy and Nico and their constant arguing and bickering, it is entertaining - it almost makes me think of Jack and Vera Duckworth.

I love their scenes, I know I am in a minority though. I think Jimmy has good comic timing and Nico plays her part very well. The kids are sweet too.

Funny there was no mention of what Nicola got Jimmy for Christmas, she probably didn't get him anything as she wouldn't want to spend Jimmy's money on Jimmy would she.

I'm sick to death of Jimmy and Nicola together as well - it stopped being funny years ago. I hate them together now.

My reaction's different to the OP's though. I don't really hate Nicola, I just want her to get rid of Jimmy, he's a hopeless excuse for a man and needs to grow the hell up.

Yep. And when she moved to Dubai for work, he "didn't support" her if he didn't want her to go, yet when he mentioned leaving (sorry, can't remember where to) the other day, she went ape.

You have to blame the scriptwriters they seem to want to portray some male characters as henpecked dolts who are too scared to have an opinion of their own they are forever trying to appease their partners every whim and mood.

I was thinking that myself a definite whiff of jack and Vera or Stan and Hilda even. Love Jimmy and nico I'm hoping they stay together bickering for many years. Love the kids too !

I am so sick of the screeching - what on earth do those children think? After the lovely scene with the youngester wishing Nicola was his Mum it all descends into war. After all it was the little boy (you can tell I cannot remember his name!) who picked up the necklace and wrapped it up and if Nicola judges Jimmy's love by how much he buys her then she is even more shallow than I thought.

The whole story-line with Bernice is just awful in my opinion and a waste of what could be a good couple. Cannot the writers live with happily married people? Or is that just too boring?

Yep, exactly. Jimmy and Nicola have turned in to one massive great clodhopping cliche - the henpecked hubbie and the harridan wife. It's about 3000000 years out of date, but hey, leave no cliche unturned.

It's a bit of a shame though, because the scenes where they realised they were totally sick of it and needed to separate were the best ones they've had for ages.

I agree with the majority here. Jimmy and Nicola used to be my favourite ED couple, now I just find them annoying. Either split them up for good or keep them together for good, this 'rinse and repeat' is really tedious.

Almost every scene featuring the pair is identical.
Nico - narrows eyes, looks Jimmy up and down before face curls into a sneer.
Jimmy - raises eyebrows in bewilderment before face collapses into a rumpled heap of despair.
Enter Rodders - 'Hey, hey hey. Oh, Nicolaar.'

And on it goes.

I find this repetitive nonsense boring beyond belief now. Another couple have been ruined, yet the production team seem to think that they are giving us entertaining storylines to watch.

The Dubai saga, Jimmy selling Mill Cottage without Nicola finding out, Jimmy having a son that he knew nothing about due to a fertility mix-up (baby Carl), and then having Elliott and Carl sent to live with Jimmy and Nicola, the bedroom farce with Bernice...the list goes on.

Jimmy and Nicola were a fun couple once upon a time, but it's just so monotonous now.

It is getting very stupid with these two. When Nicola was trapped in the fire, afterwards it should have focused on her recovery with Jimmy trying to support her, and the struggles they are both going to, but instead they had the weird mini affair with Dan, the stupid stuff with Jimmy and Bernice, and the constant make up break up with Jimmy and Nico.

Some aspects of Emmerdale right now are just fantastic, but then they keep bringing us crap like this to mess it all up. Just keep them both together, they are a good family unit with the 3 young children, can't we just have a family that stays together, no affairs etc.

Maybe they have just run out of ideas for the couple and they just don't know what to do with them so they keep recycling the same old nonsense.

I've just sent an email to TV Choice mag letters page about it - I'll be interested to see if it's printed. I've used similar wording to my post on this thread.

Jimmy never used to be a softy.

check him out here

I think the writers are determined to turn him into all of Bernard Breslaw's characters in the Carry On films.

I'm with you on this one.
While I don't actually mind the majority of the scenes it's just retreading old ground and this time I don't blame Nicola.
How humiliating was that scene in the pub?! And it all could have been avoided if he'd just told the truth.

I don't think it's how much he spends, I think it's the fact that he doesn't put any thought into it. Even all of the children couldn't believe Jimmy would buy his wife a kettle. Why would the kettle just be for Nicola? Does Jimmy not drink tea?

As a poster mentions further up, Jimmy is properly morphing into Bernard Breslaw now. Completely thick as pigs**t. Watched Carry on Camping the other day and it was like Jimmy and Bernard had been separated at birth.

Jack & Vera and Stan & Hilda had downtime from the nagging wife and henpecked hubby routine. With Jimmy and 'Nico' it's constant and has become tedious.

So as much as I understand the comparisons I think this is worse. It also feels a lot colder than anything with either of those couples sometimes.

Really a lot of the time Nicola doesn't treat him any better than Michelle at her worst was treating Steve in Corrie. Unlike Marsh, Nicola Wheeler is a good enough actress to save her character from being permanently damaged but something needs to change soon.

There needs to be some affection and normality to pierce the nagging and rows. But instead it's the same thing on a loop and it's been going on a lot longer than Iain MacLeod to be fair. Nicola and Jimmy have had these stories going back to when they first got together.

There were some interviews with Jean Alexander where she said that her and Bernard Youens got to a point where they deliberately started playing against the lines, to make Hilda and Stan more human. So they would say the lines as written, but managed to imply that underneath it all, they adored each other. I thought that was really canny.

There's no comparison with Jimmy and Nicola, who just seem to make each other miserable now. That's all I get from them, anyway.

I couldn't agree more with everyone here. Her constant scowling was only mildly amusing in the beginning, now it's just annoying. She's coming across as an unlikeable bitch and he as a complete idiot, I think what they fail to do in between all the screeching is show Nicola having any feelings towards Jimmy at all other than utter contempt. The constant going round in circles suggests to me they're going for a Duckworth-esque dynamic, but it's not being achieved in the slightest.
