So now I have my coffee in a shot glass and at 9 degrees Celcius. Not great are they?

Someone got us one for Christmas. The half cups are a bit crap. I'll play about with it and see if different brands have more volume because I refuse to use 2 pods to get a decent cuppa.

Not holding out much hope though because I'm a moron. Simple concept and simple piece of technology and yet today I sat down with what I thought was half a cup of cappuccino but was actually just the milky froth. I didn't realise it was a 2 step/2 pod drink and I was supposed to put a coffee pod in as well. I felt very stupid - i think my cheeks were hotter than my drink.

Looking forward to trying a thimble of Suchard's hot chocolate though.

On my old machine you can adjust how much water is added so you can get a full cup. That was nespresso though.

You just had to hold the button down and release it when full, that then set it as the "new normal".

On the Tassimo you can add more water but it makes it too watery. Unless I find a brand/type that has a decent volume it looks like I'll be using 2 pods for a full mug.

Try starting your rants at the beginning, not halfway though. Thanks.

I had one of the machines given to me with a pack of the cartridges. I think I had 3-4 and thought sod that lol. Also a senso machine given to me. I quite enjoyed that until the dreaded phrase was plastered on the pods "new and improved ". As my machine was a hand me down and years old the new style pouches did not fit snugg so it was pi$$ weak. I did buy a plastic device off eBay that you filled with with the coffee of your choice. It worked well but became that fiddly I went back to warming milk in the microwave and adding a spoon of gold blend (well Lidl) version lol.

i have had a Tassimo for a few years now, it works well, I normally use Kenco columbian or the Americano, I do not normally buy ones with milk. i see they have some new ones on their website, which I have not see in the shops , like Gevalia Ebony.
You can add more water by pressing the start switch and keeping it pressed after the operation.

i also have a Dolce Gusto, again, no problem with the machine, depending on what you get the coffee is nice.

The problem with these pod machines are the price for the pods, they are not cheap, which is why I only use them if i can not be bothered to use the espresso machine.

I use the Costa Latte ones and get a full cup out of those. My son loves the Cadburys and, again, they're a full cup size.

They're not cheap though but the Tassimo website always has good deals and free delivery if you spend £35 or more

Blimey - I remember when people drank coffee, straight, in a cup - sugar and milk optional

Hmm...I must be doing something wrong because we're only getting half a cup of Costa Latte and Cadburys. Nice though, just not enough. And we're using average sized mugs, it's not as if we're using those huge bucket type mugs.

Are you using milk too? I find the coffee amount is less than half a cup then when I add the milk pod it turns into a full coffee.

I don't have a Tassimo but I never buy espresso pods for my Dolce Gusto...it's always longer drinks like grande or americano or cafe con leche (or cappuccino / latte when I'm feeling extravagant).

I use my Tassimo all the time, it's not one of those appliances you use for a month then store away never to be seen again. Even the tea it makes (English breakfast) is great, very fresh tasting compared to a tea bag with water from a kettle. Coffee wise I like the Costa discs but make sure you shake milk discs before use.☕

yeah ............I've recently gone back to 'Instant granules' after a couple of decades messing about with machines and cafetieres

after a few cups it just becomes the normal coffee.

hot, wet and coffee flavoured, that'll do

Tbh, I don't see the point of these.
Either get a blade grinder and a cafertiere or buy a proper pump machine and a decent Burr grinder.

We've got a Tassimo, it lives in the cupboard next to the steamer, difference being the steamer gets used at Xmas whilst the Tassimo waits for it to come home.

The point is they're cheap and quick. "proper" and "decent" = £££

This is really a solution for people who just want coffee that's a step up from a few teaspoons of cheap stuff in a cup and perhaps want an alternative to Starbucks.

What you suggested is a viable option for coffee lovers but it comes with a higher price tag.

Not sure the cafertiere option is more expensive for the equipment and is cheaper for the coffee part.

I like the Tassimo as I can have different hot drinks at the touch of a button not just coffee. My cafetiere was rarely used as I wasn't going to make a pot just for myself. If I fancied a coffee it was as handy making instant in a cup. The Tassimo suits me better if I could just get the damn thing to make a full cup.

It's not cheap, but I prefer Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee for my percolator, but if I'm pushed for time I use either Americano pods in the Dolce Gusto machine, or more often Douwe Egberts individual filter cups.
Just shake the container to distribute the coffee evenly, place it on a cup, and top it up with very recently boiled water.

Not a fan of these expensive, proprietary licenced pod systems. If I want a simple espresso-based drink, I'll just use a standard Illy/Lavazza ESE bag on the Gaggia machine (we have a standard domestic one in the kitchen at work). We have a Zip tap if I prefer Americano.

BiB

Tassimo = approx £60 and up
versus
Krups Twin Blade Coffee Mill = £20 plus Bodum 12oz Caffettiera Coffee Maker = approx £10

(Amazon prices)

Don't look all that cheap to me and then add the cost of two discs for a decent cup = 50p
