Given that it's a music show I always find the generic, karaoke-type backing tapes they sing so a bit.....cheap. It doesn't sound terribly impressive either. It'll only be possible during the live finals but I think it'll really perk the show up a bit to have a live band there. On SCD it doesn't seem to restrict the song choices and often it livens up a song and brings it to life as opposed to singing to a tape.

Genuine live music might bring some life back to some of the later stages. A live song always sounds better to someone adding vocals to a tape.

A live band would be a good fit but I imagine it'd be quite expensive for them to get one week-in-week-out for ten weeks. Particularly as they must spend quite a lot to hire Wembley for the final - which is probably the reason why they no longer produce a proper winners single video or have a live band on the X Factor tour.

They could alternatively let some actual bands on X factor , so those people would not need another band to accompany them.

They used to have a live band on American Idol and it quite frankly made every song sound dated.

No it didn't! If you mean it's not the over pimped crap we get shot at us by record companies then ...... However depends on your view of dated. This for example is timeless. Haley and Zeppelin - heaven! Even if she did fall over.

The band worked great sometimes on Idol and was a big miss other times. For performances with orchestration or acoustic it was stunning and unbeatable. But anytime a contestant tried to do a modern or dancier song it sounded like shit. Perhaps a good mix?

..... most dance bands do. They rely heavily on technology, it's difficult to get right.

I'd love a group that doesn't fall into Boyband, Girlband, or Mixed Pop group on the show, like a Journey South type of group would be good.
