The Lady in the Van BBC2 - 2am!!

Thought this might be worth posting as i remember hearing about it. I've not seen it so can't comment as yet but at the crazy hour it's being shown (2am) it will go on record!

Quote:
“The true story of Miss Shepherd, an eccentric woman of uncertain origins, who 'temporarily' parked her broken-down van in writer Alan Bennett's London driveway... and proceeded to live there for the next 15 years.”

Well, I have absolutely no intention of staying up until 2am but I love this film. I watched it a few times at the cinema. Maggie Smith has such comedic timing and does the role such justice - even when she's not saying anything, just her facial expressions say it all.

Definitely worth a watch for those that haven't seen it

Watched it several times after listening to Alan Bennett's audiobook (big fan of his). One of my favourite scenes was when she caught him looking in the van... and she unnerves him, "Dead!" - her acting is superb.

Oh God! Thanks for that! Won't bother recording then and will watch on iplayer. I missed it before but from all accounts it's very good and i like factual movies like this based on real life eccentrics!

Wasn't there a similar one about a homeless person who lived at Heathrow Airport for years?

It's funny (and a bit moving) when she's going up on the ambulance lift and he remarks that she seems noble at that moment.
Very patient and compassionate man is Alan Bennett. The only person I'd start watching Question Time again for if he were to appear on it.
