Sky had a whole bloody channel showing it wall to wall earlier in the year
![]() Saying that I have had enough of seeing Potter and hearing about it to last me more than a lifetime. The whole thing has been overkill with over-the-top hype. |

You, yourself did that, you accused the OP of being in the minority.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: 4.14m (19.5%) Since when has 19.5% been a majority? You will say They won't listen to any reasoning and aren't interested in a discussion, but how can 19.5% with any reasoning, be a majority you said OP was the minority, that by FACTS is untrue. Again when your discussion can't be supported by evidence you then go to labels like almost trolling, knowing I am not trolling but actually posting the truth, that the few people who constantly defend ITV whatsoever will ignore and accept 19.5 as a goood rating when the programme it replaced, Corrie gets three million more! When you consider Harry Potter is pulling in over 4m and a 25% 16-34 skew - that's over 1m young viewers. Its a no brainer for ITV. Its allows them to promote new shows in January that will skew young. Ethel & Ernest isn't PSB. Its an animated film. You wern't claiming Frozen as PSB programming. I can tell you that Harry Potter was a whisker away from Jonathan Creek in the 9pm slot, so was running that close to winning the slot as well. I love Harry Potter - so naturally I a not fussed about the rpts. But I agree with you that perhaps ITV should have a couple of new programmes in the schedule. But I bet they would flop. BIB When you do exacetly the same for BBC1, I don't think you can criticise people on here for doing that. I do not think scheduling Corrie on Wednesday to replace Harry Potter is going to improve matters. Then they'd be accused of being soap heavy. Harry Potter in the afternoon has won its slot against BBC1. The the evening its ourating all, bar Corrie, ITV Christmas Eve line-up. What the point in putting ffort into new dramas/programming when the Harry Potter rpts and another Pointless episode are ourating most of it? |

Differences are the BBC have out rerun films in the afternoon or late at night, not primetime, in prinetime it's all been new.
Out of the two the thing that strikes me most is the regularity that the Indiana Jones have been on compared to Harry Potter, ITV haven't shown Potter for 18months, yet the BBC have shown all Indiana Jones movies 12 times over in two years, yet the criticism is aimed at ITV, go figure. For me personally I enjoy both sets of movies, much prefer the Blurays, but have no objection to the BBC or ITV showing them anyway they want so others can enjoy them, either for the first time or again. |

I think what we have learned from this thread then, is that overall people are happy to repeat the same francise films in primetime every Christmas.

Irrespective of scheduling, the BBC could also be accused of lazy broadcasting, ie. just stick a movie franchise on and show one movie on consecutive days, job done.

The only thing I don't understand is why show them at 9pm? I always thought of HP as being family films, so after the watershed, even if the concept of a watershed during the Christmas holiday is rather diluted, seems a strange decision. Why not start them an hour earlier?

They have been on earlier in daytime and the 7.30pm slot. Tonight was a bit of a schedling blunder.
But they return to normal slot tomorrow. |

What's really frustrating is that they're showing the films full-screen, rather than in their original aspect ratios, so you're seeing a cropped image for every movie and missing details.

Because it aired in the hour before 7pm. Always ITV don't utilise Ads in that hour and save them for their full top dollar quota in the prime 7pm-onwards slots.

This is because the Ofcom requirement is for the average per hour advertising (peak time) on PSB channels to be 8 minutes, but the maximum per hour is 12 minutes.
In order to maximise revenue ITV have 12 minutes per hour in the later hours, but have zero (or very little) in the 6-7pm hour. This keeps the peak time average down to 8 minutes. |

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (21:00-23:00): 3.43m (17.9%)
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (23:25-00:20): 2.33m (26.3%) That rating must be ITV's highest rating post 11pm in a long, long time. I see after criticising me yesterday for not willing to discuss the subject, a certain user has disappeared... |

I think only a couple started at 9pm. The first three were on morning/afternoon and some started about 7.30.

Harry Potter, is like Christmas Turkey:- Good for Christmas Day, maybe have the leftovers on Boxing Day, but your pretty sick of it, if you still have it past Boxing Day, and if it's still hanging around all you want to do is go out for a burger.
It's been very Lazy scheduling and filling up ITV schedules where drama and light entertainment should be on. The problem is that they have spent too much on SyCo productions and The Voice and had to compromise on Christmas budgets. The haphazard scheduling of starting one day at 7.30, then 9 pm, then 8 pm, is confusing. They should have run these all in the afternoons or late night. The majority are still not watching it, and ratings are not fantastic. A few will defend ITV whatsoever, but there are other threads complaining about exactly the same thing. |

As I was saying yesterday, you ignore what everybody has to say (as you've literally just done) and repeat the same old arguments. You've literally already made this post, why are you posting it again? A combination of trolling and baiting I suspect. |

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at a TV Guide/EPG to see what time a film starts. You say the majority are not watching it but that means nothing. With literally hundreds of channels to choose from to get roughly 1/5 of the viewing audience to watch a film that was made 8 years ago is something I'm sure ITV and the advertisers would be delighted with. |

I notice despite your ranting about ITV showing The Lion King against Frozen on Christmas Day, you haven't mentioned anything about how well TLK did against the modern day animated film Frozen which didn't even av. over 5m. Clearly its annoyed you that it did do well, and that when ITV compete with BBC1, they can pull in decent ratings on Christmas Day. ITV gave viewers another choice, and it paid off. As you highlight here: "I agree ITV is having a very poor Christmas most agree,. The Lion King whilst a good film was made in 1994, and shown on Channel 4 in July 2016. Frozen is the top grossing animation and first time on terrestrial TV and three years old." I think in the grand scheme of things, ITV has had a pretty good Christmas and most of it down to their film choices. |

Enough is enough! Every bloody night a HP movie (and not so long since they were last shown). While I do get how popular the series is with a lot of people, is it not overkill subjecting the entire nation to this over such a condensed period? If I thought ITV would then rest them for a while I might just about accept it but you just know they won't.
