Do You Know Anyone Who Thought EU Referendum Was A Vote To Expel All Immigrants?
Ever since the EU vote resulted in a vote to leave the EU, there have been a lot of reports of ethnic minorities reporting that people have been asking them and or as good as ordering them to leave the country because "we voted leave, now leave" and worse things too.
I've also seen idiots looking at minorities in a very exasperated/bewildered way very soon after the referendum as if they were thinking "what is that person still doing here and what shall I do about it". Do you know people that thought the EU referendum was a vote to expel all immigrants and their offspring's from the country and did you have to put them straight? What was their reaction when they were told that the referendum wasn't about that? |

People with racist views, who are self aware enough to acknowledge that's their feelings, are used to using secretive & coded language in order to disguise the true meaning of what they say & feel because they fear being branded a racist & the social embarrassment & ostracism they could face as a result of it becoming public. One person I know onlinE said to me that they were distressed about the amount of ASIANS in their locality & this is why they voted When I tried to point out that Asians wouldnt generally be EU immigrants I didn't get a proper response. It was as if they didn't understand that Asian immigration & EU immigration were 2 different things. I think reading between the lines THIS is the real issue: having seen the streams of refugees coming to Europpe in recent years, some Brexiters fear that these people will in time become EU citizens, & once that has occurred, that masses will come to the UK, "flood our culture" (in the minds of the Brexiters) with their Muslim culture & ontop of that some will become IS terrorists. For many the Anti EU vote was in fact a protest about Muslims, indirect though that may be. Of course there are those who's beef is with the institution of the EU but I'd hedge my bets, once a voters motives are investigated further, that in fact that is not a majority opinion. |

Styker,
Why would anyone think the vote was about "expelling" immigrants?? I can understand concerns about immigration but that doesn't equate with deportation does it? |

Not deportation but some did think it would be far more straight forward that it seems likely to be

I can't say I know anyone that remotely thought that way. There were a few on TV though shortly after the referendum. And they weren't all white track suit bottomed knuckle heads.

No, I've not encountered anybody who voiced that opinion. I think the main concern was to stop continued mass immigration, not the expulsion of those already here.

I don't know anyone personally who has said this BUT- my supposition is that people though the Brexit vote was a secretive "nudge nudge winK wink know what I mean" v.ote for ending immigration.
People with racist views, . I expect you still don't understand why remain lost. |

There have been lots of reports on this, reported in the media, radio phone ins and on the first Question Time after the vote, Russel Kane I think his name is said his relatives were dancing round the sofa with their arms locked singing they're all going home or words to that effect!
Its quite self explanatory. I saw one knucklehead who as soon as he saw an ethnic minority looking instantly all angry with that look I described days after the vote. I'm pretty good at reading people as I have worked for the public for more than 20 years at straight and most of the time, I read people and the kind of look/general thought that might be going through their head pretty well. I mean jeez delusions of grandeur or what?. You actually think you can read people's minds!.

The only times I've heard that view expressed is when someone else has said that it's what other people think. I've never actually heard these other people say it themselves though.

In other words, I have no evidence but I'm going to call anyone who doesn't think like me a racist.
I expect you still don't understand why remain lost. Because a large proportion of British people believe immigration is the cause of a good many of their ills. Well you've got the next few years to find out if that is true or not. |

Nope. I've heard people wanting to decrease immigration. But no one wanted to mass deport immigrants, or thought it was a vote for that.
Your middle paragraph is ridiculous. No one can mind read. have you actually heard anyone say they thought it was a vote for mass deportation, or are you going off strangers facial expressions? |

There does seem to be a high proportion of Brexiteers who link to Britain First or similar organisations in their Facebook posts.

I DO know of Remain supporters who went around telling Eastern European work colleagues that 'they'll probably have to leave the country soon' and that 'this shows the British people don't love you as much as you love us' and other such drivel (I know for a fact that such lies were spread around the American Express office in Brighton, where Eastern European staff were in tears the morning after the referendum after being told these lies).
Those who go around scaremongering like this are every bit as bad as those who racially abuse people in the street. There is no indication whatsoever that post-Brexit, Britain won't fulfil its obligations to European immigrants who are already here, and that's quite right. |

No. Just one Polish guy at work - he thought if we left, he'd be booted out.

People in this country are frightened to say what they really feel about immigration - frightened they'd be arrested. I think some saw Brexit as a way of somehow expressing repressed ideas about foreigners. Farage, with his big picture of 1000's entering Europe vaguely hinted at stopping immigration to win the vote (as did others). Anyone with half a brain knows that boat sailed years ago.
IIRC the guy in this Mirror story with the 'yes we won, now send them back' T-shirt actually got arrested. |
