Same here - our car just cost £550 to get through its MOT.

We also had my mum's 75th birthday meal which we paid for and my son's birthday is today.
We also spent too much on food but as most of it is frozen it won't go to waste - we won't have to shop apart from fresh food until March at this rate!

I bought a second hand car I wasn't expecting to buy. After trade in, new tyres, tax etc I am about £3k worse off.

Do I win ?

I have cut down on those I do buy for, but could,nt stop buying for all.

I mainly buy for family & two friends. I have stopped buying for the adults when they had children, I buy for the kids instead, apart from my own children that is.

Had this arrangement with family for years but I had to spend £3 on Christmas Cards I didn't really want to. We went to a hotel for 6 days, all inclusive and had a great time, no cooking, no washing up just sitting in the sun enjoying ourselves.

The saving you will make by not having to shop till March will more than pay for your MOT

I too, bought too much food, enough to last me until the summer, but unfortunately its all sweet stuff left that I bought for my guests who were too stuffed after dinner to eat any of it.
