These awards mean nothing to me but to be fair, VB does seem to do a her bit in supporting UNAIDS, Cancer Research & other charities.
If OBEs etc are being given out willy nilly then why not her, at least she's done/doing something worthwhile.

I'd give her one.

Perhaps even an MBE.

I'm pretty certain the committee which considers suggestions for the lower honours etc goes into some detail about whether it is deserved or not. There could well be a lot of charity work we don't hear about simply because she doesn't like to publicise it. I must say I've always like Becks and think he gets a raw deal e.g. 'thick'. He doesn't strike me as 'thick' when I have heard him speak.

You have to be joking - that woman is never out of the press - how do they know where she is or what she is doing - her agent puts it out there and if she did not like it she would stop it. She craves ever bit of publicity she and her family get - why on earth would you put your kids in the limelight like they do if they wanted privacy. As far a charity work goes - she went somewhere recently (like Africa) and it was in the papers for day, never one to miss an opportunity.
If you wanted to you could find out how much they have given to charity and it is not much - their accounts are out there to find.

I don't trust anyone who gets these ridiculous awards lately. Look at them all.

Interesting timing, her company Victoria Beckham LTD is in the press today because they have failed to file their accounts on time for the past 3 years.
Apparently her spokespeople are saying that it's an 'administrative error' but they have been sent a notice of compulsory strike off which if not rectified could potentially lead to the business being dissolved in February.

The entire honour system is a corrupt rich man's club.

Most celebrities are talentless regular Joes thrown into the limelight by corporations. They got lucky. It's only people's love of gossip, snobbery and a media that's hungry for some familiar people to write about that's elevated these regular Joes to the top of the social ladder. While it's still an achievement to become rich and famous, that in itself is reward enough in my opinion. The hard workers in the background that usually do all the dirty work for these celebrities don't get a fraction of the credit they deserve.

The real heroes in my opinion are the charity givers, the carers, the nurses earning minimum wage, who go the extra mile and don't ask for anything in return, who give up their free time to help people. The kindest souls are usually the quietest and the poorest and nearly always go unnoticed.

A respectable honour system would hunt good people out and reward them.
THIS. The truth, the whole truth & nothing but the truth!
Here's a virtual pressy & a glass of wine for reading this 'system' for filth.

Victoria Beckham OBE? Her music career was laughable and so is her fashion career. Somebody at the Cabinet Office must have a sense of humour...
....Wonder if they'll be giving any recognition to her lackeys, i.e. the ones that actually design the stuff??!

Why dont' these people who give these titles out go the whole hog & give one to the following
Katie Price for literature?
Or the cast of TOWIE for contribution for acting?
David Cameron cleaner

There was a story recently on GMTV about a DR at Birmingham Children's Hospital
Apart from saving 100's of kids lives every year still also spent her spare time raising money for charity for the hospital

Surely she is more deserving of one?

I was gonna say - when I saw she was given it for 'services to the fashion industry' - shouldn't whoever designs the clothes she puts her name to get the recognition?

Are they actually serious?! Ok so she does do some charity work when the mood suits her, but other celebrities do way more charity work and never get recognised.

As for her fashion label, didn't it make a net loss in the last financial year? Her clothing range is overpriced and ugly. And from what I hear, barely anyone buys it, it's that expensive.

Her music career is nothing to write home about either, she contributed barely anything to the Spice Girls (well her dancing was ok!). And the extent of her solo career was a duet with Dane Bowers

Design ? I saw one of her dresses in Debenhams. £900+ for a long tee shirt.

She's more deserving of one of these baubles than some others.

Bloody hell! Philip Greed has a Knighthood - as far as I know VB hasn't decimated anyone's pension fund!
Agreed. It's the business and political awards that are the dodgiest as they smack of cronyism. But they always dish a few out to high profile celebs like VB to try and keep the awards popular. After all most ordinary people wouldn't be bothered if they were scrapped.

The whole concept of the OBE is problematic, as it's rooted in colonialism. Remember when the poet Benjamin Zephaniah refused to accept his OBE because he said he'd been fighting the effects of imperialism all his life? They should rename it and get rid of the 'empire' part as it's offensive to many black people.

There was a campaign to get them scrapped or renamed a few years ago but like most things it fizzled out.

I think the system itself will force some changes. It has become a ridiculous laughing stock. Honours should only be given to the charity workers and unknowns who do things for others. Only 1/3are to celebs, yet they get all the publicity. Victoria Beckham gets one for putting her name on some quite ordinary clothes so that she can overcharge her fans, who are clearly not as stupid or rich as she thought, as no one buys her stuff. Most celebs do stuff for charity. The beckhams are wealthier than most Brit celebs, yet I doubt they do proportionately more.

Her fashion business can't be doing that badly, she's making a fair amount of money from it.

As others have said there are others who are far worse that shouldn't have be recognised at all,

It's reported Victoria Beckham the husband of football legend David Beckham will receive an OBE in the New Years honours. This for work in Fashion and Charity. Personally I havnt seen her do charity work where sometimes the media televise it. I dont know where she sells her clothes. Obviously someone has recognised this and put in a request for her to be honored.
Seems they will give an OBE to anyone these days.

What has she done to even deserve one? This is ridiculous.

I admire the celebs that turned their OBE's down.
