It only took three days to get to the moon on Apollo 11, I think sometimes people think it is millions of miles away. It's actually 'only' 238,855 miles on average distance away.

It's so close , that in 1609, Thomas Harriot drew this map of the moons surface. It shouldn't be surprising that we could find it to land on 360 years later.

so you're saying the conspiracy theorists confuse it with planetary travel when the travel to the moon is considered. I suppose that makes sense.

That the overwhelming evidence for evolution is all a huge conspiracy between tens of thousands of scientists over multiple disciplines over many, many decades.

Of course some mouth-breathing nutjob called Henry Morris was right and everyone above was wrong.

At least that's what around 40% of the most powerful nation on the planet (incredibly) still believes anyway.

Now now, I've watched a programme about UFOs coming out of the sea, reported by the military and everything. Proper convinced, I am.

I remember when the "world is going to end in 2012" somehow got confused with the illuminati and people became convinced 100 000 were going to die at the Olympics (??????). When that obviously didn't happen, the line was trotted out that we all stopped it happening by talking about it.

Everything surrounding aliens. It's almost like desperation with some people.

a very pertinent question. Offhand, i can't remember, but might have a look. Google for ''fake rapture'' ........

I've had a googly look, but all i can find is a youtube video and website saying the fake rapture is, itself, fake ! As for the real rapture, well presumably, god can make people fly if he wants to ......

Apparently, ''rapture theory'' is based on a single bible verse, 1 thessalonians 4.17. U learn something new every day ........

There's a lot of pre wright brothers flight in the bibble. Angels, enoch's chariot, ezekiel's ufo, jesus ascending into heaven, etc. Also, of course, jesus REFUSED to fly, when tempted by satan in the desert (and technically, walking on water doesn't count as flying) ...........

A girl at work is always telling me about the Illuminati and a New World Order, but I quite enjoy the chats really and I get swept up in the fun of it all and just let my mind wonder.

Then she came in with a book for me about it all and told me to read it at home... I had to come clean and say I wasnt really a CTist I just enjoyed her enthusiasm for it all on a boring day at work.

Read up about it, it's really not that hard to understand.

Put very simply, it involved rockets and a lot of very hard sums.

And a very large number of people, and a great deal of money.

I sometimes wonder if the idiotic conspiracy theories will only get more prevalent as the time from the landings increases, and ever more of the contemporary context is lost to the popular imagination.

Targeted Individuals.

People who are convinced governments, aliens, demons, Jews, anything really, is tracking them through implants and covert surveillance.

Most conspiracy theories don't really interfere in your life unless taken to major extremes, you can happily believe squid men from mars caused 9/11 and still have a job. But targeted individuals? They maim themselves to remove "implants", electrocute themselves, use tazers on themselves and any attempt at professional help for serious psychological problems means you are in league with their enemy. Of course there are websites offering support in things like how to remove tracking devices behind your eyes.

Don't ever become a government disinformation agent, folks. The hours are long, the work is monotonous, and the pay sucks. On the plus side, annual leave allowances are quite generous, but even that doesn't make up for the sheer mind-numbing tedium of most of what comes your way.

Urm...this could just be disinformation spread by government agents trying to protect their incredibly cushy jobs.

The most annoying conspiracy theories are creationism and that global warming is not real, because they are so potentially damaging for the human race, although I appreciate many would not class them as traditional conspiracy theories like 9/11.

Conspiracy theories don't annoy me so much, although they are often disrespectful to the dead. The attitude of certain theorists is quite annoying, especially the type that obviously spend a lot of time on certain 'truther' forums and say everything is a conspiracy, and spout ill informed paranoid nonsense or made up science about subjects that have no actual knowledge or experience of. The ones that frequently shout 'wake up' and call anyone who doesn't conform to their alternative but narrow ideas a sheep. They can be pretty annoying and I generally try and avoid them. What these people don't realise, other than how hypocritical they are and get very upset when challenged, is that if you spend time in these online echo chambers and actively seek out theories like a hobby, wanting them to be true, their judgment is clouded. They can't look at anything subjectivity and cherry pick, so the theory which may have some truth, loses any credibility. It's so obvious they subscribe to a theory because they simply like it, not because it's likely to be true. I guess some people also feel empowered by them, as I see people frequently use them to justify the problems with their life, which is often due to the bad decisions they have made, by blaming the authorities etc.

It surprises me how gullible people are on social media too. Never ceases to amaze me how someone with a rudimentary understanding of Facebook can create the a obviously made up meme and people repost it like it's an indisputable fact.

Here's a CT for you - the various truther movements are just money-making scams preying on the gullible. 9/11 truther Alex Jones (Prison Planet, Infowars etc) is a case in point - there's an Infowars online store FFS, where you can buy emergency radios, survival gear, T-shirts, baseball caps, books, DVDs etc. Right on dude !

http://store.infowars.com/

Jeff Rense is of the same ilk, but a bit more new age - Tesla gadgets, dietary supps, sterilizing lightbulbs etc with chemtrails and other CT in the mix. Plus, of course, books + DvDs about crop circles and other cr*p on sale.

http://www.rense.com/

almost makes Peter Popoff and his miracle spring water seem honest.

At least with Mr Popoff you could send him money and he'd pray for you . . .

None annoy me as such, I think amuse is more the word.

And I kind of like the idea that the world is run by a cabal of sociopathic gwazillionaires who have superhuman powers of organisation which has enabled them to remain completely undetected for centuries, yet at the same times time have left enough holes in their nefarious plots to allow any geek on YouTube to make a video "proving" their existence.

But the suggestion that it was a Cuba CIA/Mafia thing gone bad can be pretty compelling if you read into it.

The thing that I never understood is Oswald was apparently a JFK admirer. Spoke highly of him at social events. Why then go kill him and then deny it all when captured?”

So I was always led to believe during my history and politics A-levels and then degree, where MLK was added to the mix. The one that struck me at school was the ballistics report from Robert Kennedy - it's all simply impossible from a lone gunman.

JFK I've looked into a lot more since and am convinced, you don't need much to prove it. No expert gunman in the world has ever been able to shoot three bullets in such a short time from that kind of gun (let alone hit a moving target from distance with each one).

Then there's testimony from multiple folk at the Warren Commission that the car slowed and Kennedy stood up and said something before the fatal shot, which was dismissed. The Zapruder film always supported the official line but recent forensic investigations into the missing frames apparently show it was altered (in one frame the join is obvious). Zapruder himself said Kennedy stood up...but that isn't in his film!

There's a lady who claims she was Oswald's lover who's very interesting and quite convincing, though I haven't read her book.

Interestingly, wasn't it in the early 60s that the CIA itself coined the phrase 'conspiracy theory'?

And of course the assassination plot on Jimmy Carter by Lee Harvey and and his contact Osvaldo - they do like to take the piss after the event!
