In which that voracious seeker of knowledge Philomena Cunk examines all things festive.

Looking forward to this. Her Shakespeare programme was terrific! And some of us probably need a bit of silliness after Brooker's 2016 overview. (I'm looking forward to that too, mind)

Hope this doesn't mean that she's not in Brooker's Wipe. She's always been good in small doses so I hope she can carry a whole show.

She's in 'Wipe'. And the very funny 'Cunk on Shakespeare' is on youtube if you want to check it out. Might watch it again later!

I hoped the opposite as I'm not a fan of the character. The character always feels like she's doing a deadpan version of Ali G and Borat.

I wish Charlie Brooker would do the entire programme by himself, as I always think the segments with the extra characters ruin it – I really can't stand either Barry Shitpeas and especially the totally unfunny Doug Stanhope. I liked Diane Morgan in Motherland (which gets no mention on IMDB), but as someone else suggested, that Shakespeare programme was like a third-rate Ali G. I've set this one to record though, in the hope that it's an improvement. I wish she'd get that lump removed from her chin though – I find I can't help noticing it all the time.

Can't stand her, although I've never found any comedienne funny if truth be told.

Did give 'Cunk on Shakespeare' another look and was still chuckling away. So bar set high for tonight. I know she's not the first 'idiot savant' type, but sometimes just a look with Cuck can crease me, yet I never found Ali G funny at all.

Same here, I usually record screen wipe and fast forward when Barry and Chunk is on, just find them both really unfunny and can't stand the dumb act and the silly voices they put on.

Like any comedy it's very subjective. I like the Cunk character a lot. I was never that fond of Barry Shitpeas, but I thought Doug Stanhope was brilliant.

Thoughts?

Some light chuckles but not as good as Cunk on Shakespeare.

Isn't she an actor (or actress if you prefer) rather than a comedian? She's playing a part not telling jokes.

I thought there were some good one liners in it like -

The pagans worshipped nature like Chris Packham.

Slade shouted and didnt sing their songs so to scare off Jimmy Savile.

I havnt seen her characters act before and unlike the tumbleweed Ali G , Borat Diane Morgan made me laugh quite a number of times.

Really enjoyed it. It is very tightly scripted, so if I'm constantly chuckling or occasionally laughing out loud, I miss the next line. Still, think it makes for good rewatch value. So I will. Maybe not as strong as the Shakespeare episode, but I still thought it was great.

nowhere near as funny as the Shakespeare one

I thought she was very funny, asking 'How many 3 Wise Men were there?', talking about 'The hole in the Oz-1 layer' - and the fact that Santa judges a child's goodness based largely on parental income.

Out of curiosity, how many have you actually ever seen? And let's just ignore the fact that all the writers for this show are men...

I found this episode to be severely lacking. I enjoy Cunk a great deal. But only in small doses. It's practically the same gag stretched out for 30 minutes. The Shakespeare special was good. This one not so much.

I liked the bits with Brian Coz and Jay Rayner because they got the joke and worked with her to make it funnier. The rest of it was very much your standard Brooker wordplay stuff, Second War Two etc, which is clever but pointless.

Was never impressed with the character in Screen Wipe, but I guess 30 mins allows you to get more out of the character, because I was howling with laughter all the way through this.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

According to Wikipedia, it peaked at number 4. Was that your point?
