Good evening grapple fans, wrestling (as panto) is on mainstream British television for the first time since 2001 on 31st December.

There are many reasons this won't work, but hell, we got a WWE UK title out of it. Kind of surprised WoS are having a ladder match, hope ofcom doesn't uphold complaints about it

Interesting to see if Grado becomes a mainstream star out of it though.

I think it'll have a bit of a following for a brief period. The Indy wrestling scene is getting bigger and bigger in the UK and it looks like the wrestlers in this have all come from various Indy promotions.

Makes a nice change from another boring reality show or dull game show.

The original WOS had a Ladder Match of course it was nothing like today's the ladder wasn't even used offensively.

Any idea if this has been commissioned for a series by ITV?

Not yet, but ITV were trying to get people under contract and WWE have given some UK wrestlers £16,000 contracts not to work for some promotions.

I'd guess it's more likely than not it gets some kind of series.

Thanks.

I suspect that the WWE/ITV are not letting on all they know.

I recall watching this at 4 pm in World of Sport typically hosted by Dickie Davies.

The first thing to remember, with Big Daddy and co, it was a heavily scripted pantomime. The " bad" wrestler, often in a mask, would often go 2-0 up, but the " good" wrestler somehow -often on the rebound, would then win by an unlikely knockout against the flow of play.

Everyone knew it was carefully choreographed, still enjoyed it.

It's a bit like X Factor today, a scripted pantomime, the winner is unlikely and against the flow of play, but decided in advance. Carefully choreographed but not enjoyable like wrestling.

Anyway post Wrestling then it was switch to BBC1 for Doctor Who and The Generation game.

I'm very much looking forward to this. Recognise a lot of the wrestlers from attending local shows.

Good evening grapple fans, wrestling (as panto) is on mainstream British television for the first time since 2001 on 31st December.
Trying to remember what the 2001 wrestling was. I remember FWA Revival being on Bravo in 2002, but guessing you wouldn't call that mainstream.

Edit: Ah, you mean WWE on Channel Four. I thought you were just on about UK wrestling. Channel Four signed a two year agreement and then panicked after the first month!

The original WOS had a Ladder Match of course it was nothing like today's the ladder wasn't even used offensively.
The Disco Challenge Match. I've got that on tape that I got a from a collector. It's cringeworthy but I love it. It was from one of the first All Star Wrestling televised shows.

There are some great female British wrestlers I would be happy to see them on the card.

I'll be watching, more out of curiosity than anything and I'm not sure if it will work or not, but it's nice to see British wrestling back on ITV. It's been a while.

As it is WOS I would have liked it to be 2 falls or 1 KO to win

Wish they'd had it in a proper room and not a soundstage, but the crowd is okay.
