I enjoyed it.
I think it would have been better being taped in a real room and not media city, but other than that I had no real complaints. |

I used to watch a little WWE about 15 years ago but had no idea there was a British Wrestling scene.
Of course I knew about the old WOS from years gone by with the likes of Giant Haystacks and Pat Roach but thought it had died out back then. I enjoyed this tonight. Nice family entertainment that makes a change from Strictly/X-Factor/The Voice etc.. I hope a series is commissioned. More female matches though! |

What I saw of it (the first hour) I was pretty unimpressed tbh. The one bright spot was Kenny Williams, who seems legitimately talented and reminded me somewhat of Scotty 2 Hotty. Grado v. Mastiff was blatantly aping Big Daddy v. Giant Haystacks, and tbh those sort of big man v. big man matches are rarely great, mostly because they tend to involve repeatedly forearming each other in the head and or doing Hulk Hogan impressions. Ladder match was typical, and Williams aside dull. Typical ending too. Women's match was watchable at least, because it was a size v. speed tpye match, and they tend to work better. JR was obviously a bonus (without him I think it may have been unwatchable, actually) If it's on again I'll watch it to see if it gets any better. Quote:
I'd like it to be 2 falls 2 submissions or 1 KO and rounds like it used to be and some British Wrestling companies still do but I'm guessing the newer fans wouldn't get it.

The moves, choreography and athlelticism are pretty good, and the staging would make Kent Walton proud, but hasn't Wrestling reached its peak a decade back and on the downward slide ?
Anyway I can't reconcile the "entertainment" part with the sporting aspect, its absolute falseness is a major hurdle, it's the bastard son of a squelchy encounter between a noble sport in decline and TV . As Ballantine would say, Am oot. |

British wrestling has never been hotter, there are weekends where over 20,000 go to UK shows, which didn't happen back in the day.
Kurt Angle v Joe Coffey drew 6700 people, with £34 tickets, in Glasgow last month. |

Yeah.
Nice to see it's doing well as the people that organise it seem to put a hell of a lot of work into it just for the love of it. Same with Progress wrestling |

I enjoyed it lots.
I just wish someone would tell the heels they need to reign it in a bit in the backstage segments. Snarling like they do in front of the crowd looks wrong in the GM's 'office'. |

Agreed, that was a bit OTT. I don't mind it once, in certain situations, but the way it was done was too much. The acting in the backstage segments was also wooden as hell.

I thought it was well put together and better booked than most episodes of post Attitude Era WWE. Could happily watch an hour of that every Saturday.
Despite the low budget it looked on par with ROH and old TNA. |

I thought it was OK and good fun. Hope they do more, there are worse things ITV can, and have, put on for an hour or so on a Saturday.

Last night's rating: 1.25m (8%). That is less than rpts of Pointless and MBB on BBC1.
I imagine it will be recomissioned, but move to ITV4. |

No, for me it will never be as good as it was back in the day. |

I'd say it's on something of an upturn recently. Indie federations are popping up all over the place right now and the standard of the actual performers has increased substantially over the past five years. Even the WWE have started to move away from gimmicky characters and more towards Indie favourites like AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, Finn Balor etc.
We can debate the extent to which the actual quality of wrestling has improved (I'd safely say we can all agree 2015-16 WWE is putting on better matches than 08-10, for example), but in terms of viewership, wrestling companies have been completely unable to stop the rot. Needs another crossover star like Hogan, Austin, The Rock etc. to be culturally relevant again. The opportunity was there with CM Punk who drew mainstream media coverage with the pipe bomb angle in 2011 but we all know how that one ended - Punk tapping out in seconds in the octagon five years later! |

Don't want to derail the thread into WWE argument, but it's unlikely WWE ratings would not decline year on year. Especially if you compare it as a decades old serial fiction show to the likes of US soap operas, The Simpsons, South Park etc. Personally I feel WWE ratings (Raw in particular) have collapsed since 2014 simply because the overall narrative became even more lazy after the implementation of their own network.

So was this enough to warrant a series?
Id probably say no. |

With apparently not that many people watching it (just over a million or so I think), then very sadly I doubt that this will get another show, shame really as the potential was and is there for something to be good.
Was it perfect, heck no, but there was lots of room for growth, which was the important thing. |

I watched quite a lot of ITV live over Christmas but didn't see it advertised once. The low ratings are not surprising.
