How long before PS4 Pro Slim with 4K Bluray ?

All the specs of the Pro,
all the dimensions of the Slim,
4K/UHD Bluray

maybe a Freeview HD Tuner with the Youview app too

isn't that really what we all wanted ?

someone tell Sony

They f up play Tv on PS3 http://amzn.to/2hQAX0h
so doubt they would ever have a Tv tuner - everything is moving towards iptv / streaming anyway.

I doubt there will be a PS4 pro slim - ps5 will have 4K blu ray no doubt so just wait for that!

You'd probably have a PS4 super slim a year or two before ps5 come out

Think I personally would wait for a ps5 slim (about 3 years after launch), less power needed, less noise and heat too

It would be an admission they got it wrong by not including 4K Blu-ray in the first place and it would mightily piss off all those who've bought a Pro so I can't see it ever happening. They'll just wait for PS5 instead and include it in that. Don't think there'll be a Pro Slim either, there's already a PS4 Slim and Sony will want to clearly differentiate between the two.

Apparently its fitted into Pros already and it only needs a firmware update if you read neogaf...

I struggle to believe this if it was fitted I'm pretty sure they would not be holding this feature back.

Bit disappointing that the PS4 Pro doesn't just offer 4K Blu-Ray playback, takes away a selling point there as there's not that much 4K gaming, hopefully is capable of playing 4K on Youtube, and the 4K content that is on Netflix and Amazon Prime. It seems like a mercenary commercial decision to protect sales of 4K Blu-Ray players, because it would be such an obvious capability for the PS4 Pro. Apparently people have been having trouble with the HDCP and the HDMI handshake, I am one of those people with splitters and a capture device and I've had a bit of gip with the PS4 as it is getting blank screens and whatnot, makes me glad I've got the 500 GB for now, seems most stable and quiet compared to the 1 TB version and at least you know once it's out of warranty you can easily upgrade the hard drive anyway.

When I finally bought the PS4 which was for financial reasons was difficult to do anyway, I went for the 500 GB version, and I have also upgraded the PS3 to 1 TB.

Don't believe that for a minute. Sony have already, rightly or wrongly, given their reasons for not having 4K Blu-ray playback, they'd look a bit silly now if they suddenly said actually it does play them after all, it just needs a firmware update.

Upgrading the hard drive doesn't affect your warranty so you can upgrade before. The PS4 Pro uses the same drive as the normal PS4 so it will never play 4K BD.

Personally it wouldn't bother me I only briefly used my PS3 for BD until I bought a proper player. I use consoles purely for playing games not playing other media.

Seems 99.9% unlikely but I'm still extremely excited by the 0.01% chance.

Forgot to mention it having a 4tb internal hybrid HDD/SSD

Sony do like to kick themselves down from a lofty position!!!

If only apple executives read a forum or 2.... lol

This is not true at all; all the tear downs have showed it was the same drive as the original PS4. The problem Sony have it they went 4k BLU RAY they would have too produce two different drives for both consoles.

How many people who bought the PRO would honestly say they would of paid say 400 for the feature ?

BLU RAY itself never hit the heights of DVD. Sales data at moment looks OK for 4k BD, however then you got factor in those sales will just be people migrating from BLU RAY, and those sales are not amazing when you compare DVD, that hit 130milion and blu ray never even topped 50 million in its peak.

Physical media will mostly always be better than the likes of Netflix amazon etc, in terms of quality. However the masses have chosen convenience, better price, wider selection over, paying 12-15 pounds for one film, It cost less to watch 100's of films and 100's TV shows for one month. This is why 4K BLU RAY will be a niche market, and why Sony have chosen not bother with it.

I would have thought the final PS4 revision will be to make up the Slim to Pro specs, possibly losing an HDMI in the process.

Then roll on backwards compatible PS5.

You're dreaming. You can buy a 4TB SSD right now (9.5mm thickness too) but it will cost you over £1200.

Apart from a PC Blu-Ray drive I have never had another Blu-Ray player for movies other than the PS3 & PS4, what is it that these games consoles lack that standalone dedicated Blu-Ray players can provide? When I played Blu-Ray movies on the PS3 they seemed like superb picture quality, I don't have a lot of surround sound audio set up like some people.

Interesting point about the speed of the Blu-Ray drive in the PS4, this then is something they should have upgraded also so that it would have been capable of playing 4K Blu-Rays.

http://www.whathifi.com/forum/blu-ra...blu-ray-player

In this article there doesn't seem to be anything conclusive that standalone Blu-Ray players are superior to just using the PS3 (or PS4), one person is convinced that a Denon player has better sound, but if you tick the lossless option on PS3 (LPCM) you should get the same thing. Is it all just psychosomatic? I have always found the PS3 excellent for video quality in general, it upscales SD material really well as well from DVD or video files, so why do we need a seperate blu-ray player, how much better can it get?

Sony are releasing their first dedicated UHD Blu-ray player next year, so they are bothering with it. I also know a number of PS4 owners, myself included, who would have upgraded to a Pro if it had 4K Blu-ray but will now wait and see what Scorpio and PS5 bring.

My requirements that I can't get from a console is a player that plays all my discs, that are DVD region 1-3 and BD A-B.

I use a hardware hacked player that can play all my BD and DVD. My PS3 only plays region A BD or region 1 DVD and can't play PAL formatted DVD and the PS4 only plays region B BD or region 2 DVD together they cover most bases apart from my region 3 DVDs.

That sounds appealing. I have a couple of region a blu rays I can't play and a region free DVD player. So yes that sounds like the best Reason! An unplayable blu-ray can be ripped with makeMKV and also any region of DVD can usually be played with VLC on the PC.

Yes you can mess around with ripping discs and such but I like the convenience of a player that plays everything also I can buy any disc I want without caring what region it is. My pioneer can play all DVD region automatically and I set the BD region manually by having the player in standby and pressing a button on the remote 1=A, 2=B and 3=C. turn it on and it plays the region I need.

At least the games aren't region coded as I import games as well as DVD and BD.

There not bothering with it like they did with BD, they where first to release prototype BD player with no software, 4K has been much of afterthought from them.

I'm not doubting a few people would have been put off by lack of 4K, however It still went to increase the PS4 sales by 200%, so the masses clearly are not bothered, I also doubt that It would sold any where near as good at a higher price.
