I have just had my old phone number transferred to the iphone5 I am using.

When I go into phone contacts it shows me at the top, but with the original phone no, not the one that has been transferred.

I went to settings/phone/my number and updated it to the transferred number, but the original number still comes up in the contacts list.

Any ideas?

When you click Phone then Contacts, you see your own contact card at the top. This is not the number in the SIM that you can change using Settings->Phone, but just a contact with your own name on.

Go into Contacts and find your own name, and change the number. It could even be a landline number.

Just to add - when i looked up my name under contacts there was no phone number recorded there, so i had assumed it had been picked up from elsewhere

You find in Settings->Contacts->My Info you can select any contact that represents your information. Then that one is shown at the top of the Phone->Contacts screen.

If its assumed a number it may have remembered your old one as it had nothing else to use.
