Usually like to keep the christmas tree and decs up till about the 2nd January but we're moving house in a few weeks and have been busy taking stuff to to storage so decided just to get the christmas stuff put away as well.

My tree is still up until next week.
It,s looking even better than yesterday, with some fancy new individual decorations on it that I got today at half price. |

Um, you could always put them up a day or so before the 25th, then you wouldn't be "bored" with them halfway through Christmas.
Or is that just too obvious?Quote:
Christmas Trees are very important in Germany. They were first used in Germany during the Middle Ages. If there are young children in the house, the trees are usually secretly decorated by the mother of the family. The Christmas tree was traditionally brought into the house on Christmas eve.
http://www.whychristmas.com/cultures/germany.shtml Mine are still up, but I might take them down before I go back to college on the 9th. |

Surely you have a big new years eve bash to show off your wealth, wouldnt keeping the tree up and showing it off be better ?

All of ours are still up the inside tree, the outside tree, all the outside lights are twinkling away, and I put up some more Victorian ans Edwardian new year cards today on my antique unit, it all looks lovely. I may take it all down on new years day but I often leave it up until the 6th, I only put it up 2 weeks before xmas so I am not fed up with it all yet.

we only have one plug in small tree & the cards & one nutcracker inside, so they will all be out till the traditional 6th of Jan, likewise the (extravagant) light display outside will stay on every night until the 6th.

Everything is staying up until 6th jan, never gets taken down earlier than that. I put it up around the 8th so it's up 2 weeks before Christmas and 2 weeks after. I don't get bored of it, I sometimes wonder how long it could be up for before I did begin to tire of it, I was fed up of advent calendar chocolates by June, so I'm guessing it might be the same with the tree

Mine is still up, the tree is nearby the TV and it's slow blinking lights is somewhat comforting when you're sitting there feet up, mug of tea in hand watching your programmes.
![]() That said though they all may be down on the 3rd when the slog back to reality kicks in. |

Of course it is! It's still christmas (at least as far as I'm concerned).
Going back to mundane normal everyday life is something to be delayed not rushed towards. |

The night by which you are supposed to take them down - or else it's supposed to be bad luck - is 12th night which is the evening of the 5th. Many people think it's the 6th but it isn't, it's the evening before.
Honestly, I'm not actually sure that my tradition of taking them down on the 6th comes from the belief that the 6th is twelfth night anyway, but I don't think it does. When I was small I think it was told to me that it was fine to have them up on twelfth night itself as that night was the last night of, and therefore still part of the Christmas festival. As long as they were down before dark, in particular making sure that no lights were put on or celebratory Christmas candles lit on what would be the 13th night, (13 being an unlucky number) then it was all good. Pretty sure that's how it all went, but not 100%. I probably won't end up taking them down until it is dark on the 6th as I won't be home during the daylight hours thus risking bad luck, but will likely adhere to the "no lights" thing. |

Cards will be taken down on Monday, and the lights on Tuesday.
Usually arent here over Xmas, but as we are at home next year am under orders that the tree has to come down from the loft, but have put my foot down regarding the internal decs. The old chains she likes up have to have pins to hold them up, and am buggered if I am gonna fill in a load of holes in the walls. |

I know it's unlucky but we always take ours down early. They go up on or around the 5th December and by Boxing Day I'm bored of them. I can't clean properly and I want to get normality back.
We ended up taking the inside ones down today and it was marvellous to dust and clean properly. The outside lights are still on, and will probably stay put until the weekend. |
