Streaming is helping music labels enjoy a profit surge
https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...fy-apple-music
Warner Brothers received $1 billion in revenue from streaming, twice its download revenue. It seems the revenue boost was experienced by all major labels. Streaming is now as important as physical sales for earning labels revenue. Instead of bands having a dig a Spotify maybe they should have a look at their labels when it comes to getting paid for their art. |

Not once it gets shared out , this total is coming from a far larger group of acts than the physical era as it oncludes almost every song every released , millions of different songs
Most new breakthrough bands are struggling on less than 100000 streams per track if they are going well , that hardly feeds your family |

Most new breakthrough bands are struggling on less than 100000 streams per track if they are going well , that hardly feeds your family I have followed 4 artists from the Boston area for almost 20 years becoming frinds with two of them. They were lucky to belong to a good independent label but didn't have the reach of building an international following. Over recent years streaming has built a new fan base especially in Holland, France and Scandinavian countries, they get paid a higher percentage of the streaming revenue from their label than probably some major labels dish out but it has worked so well that they have a wider reach internationally and domestically with more sales, streaming and fans attending gigs and buying merchandise and exclusive material. There may be downsides in terms of what some artists receive from streaming but that is no different to the deals struck with labels when it was physical distribution of music. |
