I bet Waitrose wished they never started the free coffee scheme with a purchase. The queues for the machine is ridiculous, well in my local one. I've never bothered...

I rarely shop there as I'm a Clubcard points fiend but only yesterday my mum told me that just before Christmas she went in for some shopping and inadvertently scanned a bottle of whisky twice. She didn't notice until she got home and checked her receipt.
She went back in the next day, without the receipt as she had forgotten it, explained the situation to them and asked whether if she bought in the receipt would they check against their automated stock levels and give her a refund, they refunded her the second scan immediately. I'm seriously impressed with that level of customer service. |

Well, you didn't look very hard then. Many of their products are more expensive because they are much better quality and usually cannot be obtained elsewhere. Excellent French mayonnaise in jars (utterly different to the insipid Hellmans) and other bottled sauces, Moma porridge, Jacksons bread, Quince paste (brilliant with cheese), top quality chocolate, unusual range of tinned fish, excellent cheeses on the deli counter especially the cheddars, etc., etc. Oh and a free coffee and newspaper.!
I know it, you obviously know it, but I don't think it will go down too well with the nice people on here. When cheap is the buzzword, quality and taste go out of the window. |

Don't think you are missing much - my OH says it is awful and never gets one when we are in there even if there is nobody at the machine. I love their Cauliflower and Cheese Bread. |

Waitrose Hereford beef is the best meat I've ever bought in a supermarket. Their cheese is excellent and some of their ready meals are superb.
However, I'm unimpressed with their bread and their fruit and veg is expensive and not hugely better than Tesco or Sainsburys. The nicest thing about our local Waitrose is that it's not overrun with badly behaved children, who seem to prefer Tesco. |

They had a bergamot in for Christmas in the fruit section, though I could not have named it, nor suggested a use for it ! |

I don't like their fruit and veg much ... their produce buyer needs to taste some of it! But I do like most of their other stuff and I don't find it that much more expensive. They do have a bit of an obsession with Heston though and keep encouraging him to put strange things in otherwise decent food.

Our local Waitrose back in the 80s was like the public toilet of supermarkets so never used it. Then when the Ocado part (I'm still unsure of the connection) came about and people raved about it I thought I might check them out.
Great service and they do the best fresh Naan bread, though they could lose some of the seeds on them, I have to brush half off. I don't use them very often, used Fetch a couple of times too which has a good service and regular offers. |

As i said, I only had a look, but the prices are high, a pot of Jam is £2, what on earth makes a pot of jam cost £2 apart from having the duchy name on it? £1.20 for their bottom of the range butter, I know butter is not cheap these days, but when it is suppose to be the basic, value type range, then surly the price should be that.
i was going to get bread flour while I was in there, but at £1.79 I thought they can stick it. I have no idea who Jacksons bread is, no doubt it is still mass produced bread and to be honest I am going off that type of bread these days. I am not saying that there is something in that you get what you pay for, one of the reasons I do not buy much from Aldis and Lidls is because i think they are too cheap and the quality of a lot of their products are not up to scratch, also they do not have the variety, but there is going over the top. is anyone really going to tell the difference between Jam that cost £2 to some that cost less than a quid? I doubt they will. I also found our Waitrose cramped as it is not that large, not much room to move around and the layout seems confusing, there seems to be seats in silly places for people to sit down. i do not like shopping for food at the best of time to be honest, maybe it is me getting older and getting annoyed with people spending more time on their phones than they do looking at what they are doing and swinging their trolley around not looking where they are going. |

I found there was just as many badly behaved children as in any other store, i can not really call it a supermarket. |

Hereford beef that is not from Hereford, probably comes from poland or somewhere like that and just packed in the UK. Called Hereford beef because it comes from the Hereford breed, but i bet they are no where near Hereford.

I will have a look on the website and see what they call it. Ah, they call it an open-air retail and leisure scheme, open air because they could not afford to build a roof on it. i hate the place to be honest, the only decentish thing there that we did need is the cinema and i only been there twice, just a shame it is an Odeon. |

I may be wrong but I thought that both M&S and Waitrose state the source farm on their packaging, if it's from Hereford then it's from Hereford.

That explains it then, even if there is a bust stop around there, not that it is just for Waitrose, there is also a load of other places there as it is our new so called, no idea what you can call it, I would not call it a retail centre as too many chain restaurants, not really a shopping centre as there are not all shops.

All served by bus routes that many shoppers use. What is your point! |

The machine at their Brackley branch never seems to be working when I have been in there. I am destined never to try it. Though according to jazzyjazzy's OH I am not missing much. |

That's correct, but Co op & Sainsbury also buy from the same Hereford beef supplier that supplies Waitrose.
