It's the kind of place where people get ripped off and purely will the products to taste better.
Basically the same nonsense as wine tasting competitions. |

Waitrose are by far the best when it comes to value for money. I get them via Ocado delivery. I don't actually think they are that expensive. I spent more in Morrison's today when we did a rare supermarket shop. What a waste of time that is. Home delivery is definitely the way forward

Hereford beef that is not from Hereford, probably comes from poland or somewhere like that and just packed in the UK. Called Hereford beef because it comes from the Hereford breed, but i bet they are no where near Hereford.
i do not like Sainsburys bread and I do not buy fresh veg, always frozen. I found there was just as many badly behaved children as in any other store, i can not really call it a supermarket. http://www.waitrose.com/home/inspira...food/beef.html Children out of control? You've been to one store in the last few years...your thread is blowing gas LOL This is one of your better threads, I'll keep an eye on it and make popcorn ![]() ![]()

M&S were the only ones not involved in the horsemeat scandal as they were the only supermarket with their own suppliers. I haven't forgotten that

I must start making a list of what I need and stick to it, I also got to cut down on what I eat anyway, got to lose weight. I do not do online shopping for food, I thought i would try it once just for a trial, I did not get past the picking, it was just so annoying, so I gave up. While i am not fond of shopping, I do prefer to pick my own stuff. |

What is so special about it? i went into ours today, only the second time since it opened about 3 years back, I do not see why some people think it is so great. I know ours is only a small one and not that large, but the prices of their own products are way over the top. like a more expensive version of Marks and Spencer but without the clothes.
i did not buy anything in there, I only went for a nose as I was early for my bus. i doubt i will ever go in there again. It seemed like a slightly posher version of Sainsbury's to me. Loads of staff milling around and ready to answer questions. Loads of posh people and expensive cars in the car park. So in answer to your question, I suspect it's more to do with the over all shopping experience than their products. A lot of people don't realise how paying a little extra on your shopping mounts up over time. |

I really do not understand where we are gong with this debate!
Various supermarkets exist to fulfil various markets. Some of us shop in one shop, some in another and, shock horror, some shop in them all! They all have their position in the retail chain. There isn't one 'right' place to do your shopping. |

I love Waitrose. I only use them for the occasional top-up and treats as it would bankrupt me to do all of my shopping there. It's a far less stressful shopping experience than other supermarkets - less crowded, better staff and even shoppers' children are better behaved.

The customer service is far ahead of the other supermarkets, the staff actually pretend to care rather than run off and have a teabreak when a question is asked of them. - Oddly I've always found John Lewis customer service terrible.
Their self service tills are actually callibrated correctly and aren't incredibly over sensitive. As long as you avoid the Duchy stuff they really aren't that expensive, certainly cheaper than my local alternative within a 20 minute drive of Co-Op, assorted incarnations of Tesco & Sainsburys, or McColls. |

I only tend to use my local Waitrose if I am just getting a few items.
The car parking spaces are huge, there aren't any two headed mutants walking around in tracksuits or onesies, the whole experience is very much stress free. |

I quite like Waitrose but we don't live close enough to one for it to be convenient. The one which is nearer to us has its car park on the roof and I don't like using it. Despite it being on the roof, it is not a flat surface. It undulates in several different direction and when it is windy - as it usually is in Edinburgh - it is very difficult to stop the trolley rolling away when attempting to unload bags into the boot if you are unaccompanied. I have had several near-misses when I have only just managed to catch my trolley before it went careering into someone else's vehicle.
![]() As far as the products are concerned, I pretty much always know that if I need something obscure, I'll find it in Waitrose, which is good. I also like the fact that they don't have several aisles completely given over to crisps and fizzy drinks, as ASDA appears to. ASDA is often a good place to shop for certain things but I have been put off by the one closest to us, as it is the coldest place on the planet. I genuinely cannot walk through their chilled produce aisles unless I have three layers of warm clothing on. In summer, I would have hypothermia in 20 seconds. Their energy bills must be astronomical as there is so much cold air being belted out into the store 24 hours a day. |

The "I'm going to drive down the middle of the road" approach even if it means hitting oncomming cars. One driver managed to ram the bollard in front of her car so hard her front wheels ended up two feet off the ground, this was from parked and she intended to reverse out. Oh there are people on that zebra crossing and a line of cars waiting for them walk across, I know, I'll overtake the lot of them and really put my foot down. |

You may have spent more because you got stuff you do not really want, I do that and then get home and think why the hell did I buy that. Home delivery do not really solve that problem as people just buy the same thing week in.
Bit of a sweeping statement that people buy the same things every week. Obviously I have a number of staples and favourites but I'd get bored out of my brain eating the same stuff over and over from week to week. I definitely vary my orders - and avoid the systems which offer to automatically compile me a shopping list based on previous favourites like the plague. |

Waitrose is a nicer shopping experience than the likes of Aldi / Lidl but I just buy bits and pieces there and avail myself of their free coffee and wifi.

I tend to do my shopping in Waitrose. The other choice nearby is Morrisons, and the shopping experience at Waitrose is so much nicer - shorter queues, nicer ambiance and a better range of food.
However you do pay more for it. Fruit and veg does seem more expensive than the other supermarkets, and stuff like washing powder and cleaning products is more expensive as well. However there is nothing wrong with people who don't mind paying a little more for a better experience. I In terms of the food offering, Waitrose is great for stuff like olive oils, cheese and coffee - and its fish and meat counter are better than other supermarkets (their fish counter is the only supermarket counter where the fish actually looks properly fresh!). |

I bet Waitrose wished they never started the free coffee scheme with a purchase. The queues for the machine are ridiculous, well in my local one. I've never bothered...
