In the market for a new tv, budget say 400 up to 600ish.

Have skyq and PS4 pro, so looking at 4K for future proofing a bit, I am also looking at 49'inch set max due to space commitments.

Had, lg, Sony and Samsung in the past, so fancy android, especially with potential side load of apps.

Kinda leaning towards the Philips, but not really had any experience of them not to many reviews or sets on the market, or should I just stick with Sony to brand link with my PS4.

Any thoughts, many thanks

My last two tvs have been Phillips though i think i read they dont actually make them anymore. Think they are rebranded but made by someone else. I might be wrong though.

If that makes much of a difference to you then go for the Sony but i have to say im very happy with my 55" phillips.

I'm glad someone is happy with Philips

They have always had a terrible reputation for poor reliability and poor service, and as such lost pretty well all their market share - resulting in their complete demise as a TV brand, with the name now sold off to some cheap crap manufacturer.

So not 'rebranded', the Philips name belongs to the company who makes the sets, it's just not Philips.

These are made by a different company than the TVs.
* Philips TVs in Europe are made by TP Vision which acquired Philips' TV business in two stages in 2012 and 2014. http://www.tpvision.com/

* Philips DVD players are made by Philips Consumer Lifestyle, 100% owned by Philips.

In terms of TVs, it's best to stick to one of the big four - Samsung (market leaders), LG, Sony and Panasonic.

One example obviously isn't statistically significant

However, their CRT sets weren't 'too bad', apart from the last 5-10 years where they had MASSIVE premature CRT failures, to the extent their warranty service company went bust. This appeared to coincide with their association with LG, with CRT's branded Philips/LG.

Had an old 19 inch CRT Philips TV in my bedroom. TV lasted well over 5 years before it started playing up and replaced that at the time with a 22 inch LCD Goodmans TV and sound from that was not as good as the old Philips CRT TV. The Goodmans lasted 2 years before I got rid.
Philips once a very good company now seem to be getting mixed reviews in the last few years depending on what producet you buy.
My top TV makes are.
Samsung
Panasonic
Sony
LG
At the moment Samsung seem to be the best for smart TVs.
