That's quite sad, he was trying to be nice and was slapped down I'm sure Carrie would have appreciated his sentiments. Very few people would hate being thought of as beautiful !

Beautiful doesn't just mean attractive, it could also mean wonderful.

The internet makes it easy for witch hunters to find witches that aren't there.

It's mostly feminists who are up in arms about calling women beautiful.

That's why I avoid Twitter now, full of idiots with their attention seeking faux outrage nonsense. This kind over-self righteous attention seeking, which is basically just trolling really, has become like a cult. I hate it, so disrespectful to Fisher. Steve knew her, these people didn't. It's obvious what he meant, shame he felt he had to delete it.

And here we go again. Another over-reactionary cry wolf from the PC do gooders, which with every incidence only furthers to discredit their cause.

And here we go again. Another over-reaction to about two people on Twitter, used for an attack on 'PC do-gooders'.

Apparently there's now a backlash against the backlash that caused him to delete the tweet.

The stupid PC snowflakes who bitched about his tweet and said "it's very bad mmkay" should all be ashamed (if they even know the meaning of the word). Martin was friends with Fisher for many years and can say whatever the hell he wants because i'm damn sure he'd know better than most what she would or wouldn't approve of.

Outrage on Twitter?

But it normally offers such a calm, well balanced, sane response to things.

One of the twitter posters quoted by the DS article linked in the original post is now being "shamed" and "slammed" himself. He maintains that his post was intended sarcastically.

Sigh. When did things posted on Twitter become news?

Quite. Why delete it, when a simple "there we are, then" would have sufficed?

Aye, that's poor from DS. They're showing 2 tweets that are supposed to be representing this outrage over what Steve Martin said.

The one from New York Magazine saying to remember Carrie Fisher for other things besides her looks doesn't appear to be having too much of a go at Steve Martin as his name isn't mentioned. It might be mentioned in the article itself but I cba clicking through.

The other is from that person saying he was being sarcastic. Looking at his other tweets I'd say there's a good chance he was. He also made a tweet with a screenshot of an article where Carrie Fisher said outrage over toys being sold of her in her bikini outfit was stupid. In another one he pours water on the the Richard Hammond gay ice cream thing and in another praises a German minister for not covering her hair in Saudi Arabia. They're not the tweets of someone belonging to the perpetually outraged crowd.

That's not to say the backlash against Steve Martin didn't or doesn't exist, I had heard about it previously on a video by someone on youtube. Bad examples of it from DS though.

Once again, the likes of Twitter give idiots a voice.

He said, ""When I was a young man, Carrie Fisher she was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. She turned out to be bright and witty as well," he wrote."
What exactly is wrong with that? That is how we all react at times. When I first saw Debbie Harry, I had the same thoughts.
