I wouldn't have put Max or Steve on there - both great characters, but not iconic. That said, Steve's death is one that I remember most clearly.

I'd have had
Frank
Pat
Peggy
Den & Angie (or Den alone, but I think Angie deserves to be in there)
Sharon
Dot
Ian
Kat - (as a representative of Kat, Ronnie and Stacey, only one of them should be on there, and Kat had YOU AIN'T MY MUVVA YES I AAAAAAAAAM)

Possibly Phil, but I don't think both Phil & Grant. And to be honest I'd have had Den at number 1 instead of Phil...

I wouldn't put Max in there even though he is good, I'd swap him for Pat Butcher or Kat Slater even

That's a pretty good list even if the women are a bit under represented.
Phil would be number one for me

That list is ridiculous, Max Branning & Steve Owen? But no Pat, Kat or even Stacey?

My list would be....

Den
Angie
Sharon
Pat
Dot
Peggy
Grant
Phil
Kat
Bianca

More than 10, I would add...

Nick Cotton
Ian Beale
Pauline Fowler
Frank Butcher
Alfie Moon
Ricky Butcher

I've probably forgot someone.

For some reason that link doesn't work on my iPhone (it just takes me to a page that says this website was brought to you by Go Daddy).

Can someone list the 10 characters on this thread please

Dirty Den
Angie
Pauline
Dot
Nasty Nick
Pat
Phil
Grant
Peggy

I'd say:

Den
Angie
Pat
Pauline
Frank
Peggy
Dot
Phil
Grant
Ian

It's a shame it's only 10, as Sharon, Kathy, Kat, Bianca and Nick also deserve mentions.

Surprised they didn't mention Pat. She was in EastEnders for 25 years, many fans loved the character and she was well known for her earrings.

For me, I'd say:

- Den Watts
- Sharon Watts
- Kathy Beale
- Ian Beale
- Pauline Fowler
- Dot Cotton
- Frank Butcher
- Pat Butcher
- Peggy Mitchell
- Phil Mitchell

For me, the most ironic are the 'one-namers' who you could mention to any random on the street and they would know who you mean.

I think diffeeent people will have different opinions when it comes to which characaters they find 'iconic'.

For example, there are a whole generation of viewers that have now watched the show for a long time that will have seen Ronnie Mitchell lose her long lost daughter, Max Branning have numerous affairs and Stacey Slater get sectioned, but would have just missed the character of Pauline.

Therefore, if you conducted a survey, a whole demographic would probably see characters such as Pat, Peggy, Max and Stacey more iconic than Den, Angie, Kathy and Pauline.

The same way a whole segment of the Corrie audience would see Steve, Liz and Roy as more iconic than Ena, Elsie and Annie.

It really does come down to different opinion.

Of course, the more Classic characters are generally the most iconic, but I wouldn't just write off characters like Max and Mick for example, just because they haven't been on the show for as long. Max in particular has made a huge impact and is probably the biggest characater of the last decade. He has well and truly earned the title of iconic and an EastEnders legend in my opinion.

After the Mitchells she was probably the most well known characters to come out of the 90s. I would do anything to see her back. Brilliant character played by a sublime actress.

I can't see the list but Max Branning and Steve Owen being on there is ridiculous. Iconic my arse! Roly Watts and Ethel's Willy are more iconic haha!

There are obviously more than 10 iconic characters in EastEnders but I'd go with

Den and Angie (Den also deserves a place on his own and is THE most iconic character)
Dot Cotton
Nick Cotton
Phil and Grant
Pat Butcher (tempted to include Frank but opted not to)
Peggy (hate her but she's iconic)
Sharon
Kat Slater
Pauline Fowler
Michelle Fowler (the real one)
Kathy Beale
Cindy Beale

I didn't bother with Ian Beale. He's long serving but hadly an icon of television. Same for Bianca, Sonia and a few others.

People still mention Mary the Punk so I guess she's noteworthy but not really iconic. In fact that could be applied to many of the characters in the show's history.
