1. Phelan was hit from behind, he wouldn't have seen who did it
2. There's no actual evidence it was Andy
3. If Phelan were to tell the police, why has he suddenly realised who it was?

Ridiculous storyline, worse than the stuff Blackburn was putting out.

If Andy really meant to to kill Phelan the first time, why not do it again, it could solve all his problems?

1. There was a scene just the other week where Andy told Phelan he's writing a story where a bad man gets his comeuppance. So it would be obvious to Phelan it was him.
2. No CCTV in the builders yard?

They really need to get it fixed when you consider the incidents that go on there.

This is exactly what's bugging me about this s/l too , that there's not a single scrap of evidence to prove Andy whacked Phelan so the blackmail plot makes no sense whatsoever

I love Corrie but it's things like this that are really winding me up lately putting me off. Likewise Mary finding her son and then within a week she's all set to move abroad and live with him???? Ffs as if that would happen so quickly. No getting to know each other first, building up a relationship etc.

The police don't really need proper evidence though when it comes to charging someone, so that's why Andy is worried.

Phelan may have guessed or less likely seen that it was Andy but why did Andy capitulate so quickly when confronted by Phelan?

He had the guts and ability to knock someone out and basically attempt to kill them in cold blood but wets his pants when the victim says he's going to tell with no real evidence by the way.

Andy should have just called his bluff as Phelan didn't really want to involve the police what with all his criminal shenanigans. Phelan only wanted the money and so would have probably just had to let it go.

All Andy had to do was show a bit of strength of character. Unfortunately the whole story line is just about his exit so once more Corrie had to go down the unrealistic route to get a result that suited them

The Phelan storylines just aren't working for me!! Plus he's about as threatening as a bowl of cold porridge!!

I like that Phelan is more of a pyschological manipulator than a hardcore 'knock 'em out' type villain. However, I find this 'all seeing and all knowing' ability he has of sussing out his opponents unbelievable.

How many times did Todd think he'd caught him out, only for Phelan to suddenly see the trap? I hate that kind of laziness in soaps especially when they see that they have a good thing going and want to milk it for all it's worth.

Sometimes, less is definitely more. Phelan sailing off into the sunset with Vinny would probably have been a good ending - especially since we saw that he was genuinely fond of Eileen. Now, we just want him to get his comeuppance which in real life doesn't always happen.

I actually think that one of the main reasons that I vaguely tolerate him- other than the great acting, is that he makes irritating Anna squirm and writhe in anger....Every cloud and all that.

Oh and on the subject of Andy/Gavin - what a waste of an actor. Ridiculous story from beginning to end. If they'd really wanted to make him believable, we should have had more meaningful scenes with Michael after he found out about the deception as to why Andy had carried on with the pretence and then perhaps a grudging understanding of their newfound 'surrogate' father/son relationship. But nothing - Michael hated Gail for her part in the deception but moved in fairly quickly with Andy and Steph....

The whole time he's been in Coronation Street, he's had the same distracted expression on his face - Wondering about the next meeting with his agent, perhaps?

Absolutely. They could have made both Michael and Andy far more interesting characters - and it would have been good for the soap imo, because the peripheral characters get no decent storylines. The Michael/Andy thing, though unrealistic, was still a major story that the writers just abandoned without exploring the aftermath which could have given a bit of new life to Corrie. They seem obsessed with the same old characters.

He also had the nous to put Kevin in the frame for committing the crime, which was very callous and seemed OOC for Andy, but whatever. What happened to the police suspecting Kevin anyway? Have they just dropped the investigation now that Phelan is fine?

The police are known for their sharpness on the street. The one cop concluded with the force the brick was swung at and the impact on the head, the shock would have broken the Cuban heels off Kevin's boots. The other cop agreed when he noticed Kevin was the same height as usual after checking of course he wasn't standing on the spare tire of the car he was working on.

I hate this storyline. As all regular posters know, I hate Phelan, but this current plot takes the biscuit. I think he was meant to leave with Vinnie, but the producers thought they were onto a good thing with the Phelan character and decided at the last minute to keep him in it. It may backfire though I reckon, as a lot of people now seem to be getting fed up with him and the stupidity of the storyline. I just don't believe that Andy would give into his demands as there is no evidence against him. He would be better off calling Phelan's bluff and confessing to what he did, rather than giving in to blackmail. Please let this be over soon, really soon.

And now he is involved in another dastardly deed, because of course he conveniently overheard Kevin talking about the van. Getting ridiculous now, the writers are struggling with what to do with him.

Kate did such great work with Emmerdale during her early days with the show. She's absolutely butchering Corrie atm. God.
