Just watching EE and got me thinking when has suicide been covered resulting in the character dying for me the only examples I can think of are

1- Donna Emmerdale ok she was dying anyway and did it to save her daughter from a peodophile

2- Katie Harris CS to escape the guilt of caving her own dads skull in

3- One of the millers EE was it a Romeo and Juliet stile plot ( May be wrong on this one.

4- Chris Tate Emmerdale ok he was dying as well and he did it to frame charity

Any more I have missed

Lewis Richardson in Hollyoaks, played by Ben Hull, was graphic for the time!

Also Natasha blakeman in Corrie played by Rachel Leskovac

Rachel was recently Joanne in Hollyoaks and Ben is currently Mr T in Holby

In EE, I think Ian and Kat have contemplated suicide twice. Ian tried committing suicide last year but I felt as though it was handled poorly and overcome by Kathy's return.

Hayley Cropper was probably the best suicide story that's even been produced in a soap, it was excellently done.

Mandy's boyfriend at the time (played by Sean Maguire) was originally slated to kill himself at Christmas, but the producers lost their nerve and had him just walk out on Mandy, instead.

I disagree

I think Lewis Richardson in Hollyoaks was better

Has anyone mentioned Maxine in Hollyoaks

Sons And Daughters featured a few.

The most well known was Leigh running into oncoming traffic and a truck striking her head on.

Martin Healy shoots himself in the head.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young men, mostly as a result of mental illness so it's right that it should be covered in this way.
It has been done often when a character has a terminal illness, but seems to still be a bit of a taboo subject when covered with depression.

Didn't Kathys daughter kill herself as well?

Eta - no, Donnas was an accidental death.

The first one I can remember seeing was in Brookside, Bobby and Sheila's friend Theresa who jumped off the Mersey ferry after her husband (Bobby's best mate, Matty) was under suspicion for Sheila's rape. Iirc there was mention of mental illness, but Theresa wasn't a main character so they didn't explore the issue in any great depth.

Lewis Richardson in Hollyoaks is the standout suicide storyline for me, as it showed that it's not necessarily a case of pop a few pills and drift peacefully off. Lewis suffered for that attempt for some time afterwards, during which he changed his mind but it was too late and he suffered a slow drawn out death as his organs began to shut down.

Ken Barlow's second wife Janet committed suicide by overdosing back in 1977.

Richard Hillman killed himself in 2003.

Niall Raferty in Hollyoaks took his own life, but wasn't a suicide led storyline, just a way out of the mess he'd got himself in to.

Remember Kat's suicide attempt a short while back?

Another of Treadwell-Collin's rushed stories that had no impact. Compare it to Lee's!
