As expected Max's revenge is a damp squib. His revenge consists of forgiving everyone and harming himself. My commiserations to all the people who were hoping Max was somehow going to do something worse to his enemies than what they've already suffered in his absence. That Jane really had it coming. It's a shame she's had no form of comeuppance. Ditto The Philth. They've both been on easy street all year.
The plot became farcical from summer 2015 and its wrapping up in May 2016 was not a lot to write home about. So Max not taking revenge, rather than being shocking, would just be one more underwhelming aspect to add to the others. That said I’ve sort of forgiven Jane. Maybe I'm easily manipulated. She paid a price for covering for Bobby when he turned on her. Phil, though, his liver disease isn’t directly related to what he did. So I still wouldn’t mind seeing him (and others) suffer at Max's hands but like I said I'm not expecting it. And I wouldn't blame the show for leaving well alone, in favour of a more subtle exploration of how prison has affected Max, after what a farce the original thing turned into. |

Let's not forget whatever anyone did to get Max sent to prison was all done because Ian and Jane wanting to protect Bobby, they convinced a lot of people it was for 'the greater good' they are the ones ultimately to blame for it all, they guilt tripped Sharon and Phil with the what would they do if it was one of their children scenario nonsense.

If that scene last night is anything to go by, showing him as a broken man post prison will prove a more potent story anyway. I’d still like him to have the last laugh at some point but I’m not expecting it. The Bobby cover-up choked the show for ages and almost was the final nail in the coffin for several key characters (the stench of it lingers on with some of them).

Max asking Phil what he had done to him to make Phil bribe the jury bloke, why didn't Phil say well you did con Ben into signing the arches over to you?

A very surprising direction to take Max.
I hope there will be revenge at some point though. |

I'd still like Max to get some kind of "revenge" but I don't think it needs to something that is a long, drawn out and vicious debacle. I think, as he said, forgiveness is a lot harder and in the long run, more satisfying. Max was never going to use his fists or anything like that, he's always more likely to play the long game but I think these scenes proved that he's not capable of doing that right now.
Personally I'd like to see Phil try and turn over a new leaf, rebuild bridges and if anything be a better man for this Tony he keeps banging on about. Part of that would be giving Max something as a way of making it up to him in someway. |

Max was happy enough to see his niece Alice stitched up for a crime she didn't commit. He even commented it was for the best so his precious Stacey could walk the streets again (and not because of Alice's role in the crime before anyone says it). Then there was the time he taunted The Philth who was wrongfully imprisoned and swindled his businesses out from under him. Always in the back of my mind is the way he treated that pathetic cow Kirsty. I just cannot sympathise with a man who treats a woman that way. And in front of his daughters too! YUCK!

But yes he what he did to his own niece was awful, this was his karma I suppose. |
