Honey G misses the Top 100
So Honey G has completely missed the top 100 in the singles chart and charted at #149 and I can't say I'm surprised.
There is a difference between good TV (subjective of course) and someone making an impression on the mainstream music charts. I'm glad she didn't chart as although rap doesn't have to be serious there is a difference between those who can rap and people (like Honey G) who enjoy the music as fans. That said underneath her act she appears to be a regular nice person. Is she Simon Cowell's biggest music flop? He used to say Girl Thing but at least they went in at #8 with their first song. |

I'm so relieved it has completely flopped. Hopefully she gets dropped soon and disappears

I'm surprised itemised the top 40 as it was top 8 on iTunes for 4 days. The song is dreadful. But what were digital and physical sales like?

The last figure I saw for streaming was around 16k streams on Spotify which is rather pitiful. They quite deliberately released her single on the 23rd because the first qualifying chart is traditionally the "dead" chart where the christmas sales are usually quite flat and a lot of the old christmas songs remain in the chart because people have been streaming them a lot for christmas parties e.t.c.. For her to tank so badly in this chart in particular really could represent Cowell's biggest ever failure. |

But did anyone seriously expect any different? (apart from Cowell obviously)? Even as a novelty act, the joke had worn more than thin and as for anything else....
I genuinely couldn't tell which market she was aimed at? I don't actually mean this as a righteous dig but really who was supposed to buy her 'music'? Cowell's finger has truly slipped from the general public's pulse. |

I think the general record buying public at large probably didn't expect any different, but Cowell completely misjudged this.
I think the approach to her 'career' is interesting, for me at least ![]() Was it either a case of him seeing her come through the pre-auditions in front of the producers and deciding he could launch her as a novelty act for the younger music market, so he consequently decided that she'd be given preferential treatment in production and a standing ovation each week ? Or was it more of an opportunistic approach where she was put through as nothing more than cannon fodder but she started to generate serious column inches so he went with it and gave her a one-off deal just to see if she "took" with the public ? |

She is #35 in the sales chart, purely streaming that has caused her to miss. And being as 50% of streaming is controlled by 14-16 year old it is no wonder they aren't streaming her also the fact that who would want to play the song more than once anyway
Very few people 18+ wont be listening and children under 10 probably don't have Spotify accounts, and their parents won't want to listen to the same song 30 times a day just because their son or daughter likes it. The whole "act" is flawed.

will people then finally accept that she genuinely does think of herself as a serious artist and that she isn't "mentally ill" ?? |

I know cowell lives a novelty act but this was a joke that wasn't funny to start with and I can't believe he genuinely thought she could sell music |

Her only market, apart from the deaf, must be 8 and under surely?
I know cowell lives a novelty act but this was a joke that wasn't funny to start with and I can't believe he genuinely thought she could sell music He owes Louisa Johnson's success to Clean Bandit. I doubt So Good would've done well had it not been for Tears doing well beforehand. As for James Arthur, he only resigned him when he realised the public liked his single Say You Won't Let Go. Cowell's money is more likely the reason why James Arthur did well on Spotify in the US. He probably paid them handsomely to put his single high up all the American major playlists. It's funny to see the man who made Leona an international star now a crumbling mess promoting Honey G. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. He only seems to put money and effort into past X Factor acts who are now more established.
