Pretentious garbage imo.
Yep, I don't listen to anyone who says something is 'out' or 'in' for that matter. I never have and never will follow the fashions and trends for anything, if I like something it stays and if I don't it doesn't, simple as that.

I have tinsel on my tree because I like it, I also have 2 lots of tinsel going up the banister and have 2 sets of lights going up the banister as well, one lot red and one lot white.

I do theme my tree, it's either red, gold and green or teal and silver. The one thing that goes on the tree, and has done for the last 36 years, is the lights, they were bought for my eldest daughter's first Christmas and are still going strong. I love them because they have a tree topper built, which is lit. I will be sad when they finally do stop working.

I don't do tinsel, I have silver bead garlands. Our decorations are a mix of things we have bought over the years. We buy a couple of new ones each year.

We have wooden ones bought from Savill Gardens. I have some lovely clear glass baubles that have white bands covered in glitter round them and some large glittery stars with smaller stars in the middle which look good with the lights sparkling on them. Last year I bought some fimo clay ones(Father Christmas, a snowman and a reindeer) from Waitrose. We have a grumpy owl from homebase. I prefer cool white lights to others.

When we had a fake tree it was colour coordinated now we have a real one it has become much more eclectic.
