He totally deserves it. Met him once at New Brighton Floral Pavilion and he was so friendly and charming and.... funny!

Have I miss-remembered something here - apologies if I have, senior brain!

Didn't Ken Dodd get done for major tax evasion 20/30 years ago?

If so then how on earth can he be considered worthy of a title. People are up in arms about Victoria Beckhm but surely this is a country mile more of a travesty.
Not quite. He had to pay back some extra tax based on estimates of his assets, but it was deemed he wasn't evading.
Dodd is, at least, well known in entertainment circles for living purely to make people laugh. My sister in law managed a theatre in Leamington Spa and had a childcare issue early one evening. Ken Dodd had turned up for his gig that evening and spotted her desperately trying to sort out my nephew and the theatre and offered to look after him until my brother got back from a meeting. By the time my brother arrived to pick him up, he didn't want to leave Mr Dodd behind -he was in fits of giggles.
Just as well, really, as whenever Ken Dodd is doing a gig, the theatre manager doesn't get to go home until the wee hours of the morning!

They just mentioned one of his jokes on the Today Programme.

"I don't owe the Inland Revenue any money, because I live by the coast"

Made me chuckle.

Well done Sir Ken, long overdue recognition.

It's a pleasant surprise to find that he's still alive. There can't be many of his contemporaries left.

Oh dear, I suppose now we will get repeated announcements of the dogs demise and endless clips of his dog on TV news for the next three days. RIP Ken Dodd's Dad's dog.

Went to see him with my parents many years ago when I was a teenager - my brother, who was going through a stage of straight-faced teenage misery himself, laughed his head off!

Well done Mr Dodd!

What you mean is "...means bugger all to me?"

Surely the meaning of any award is personal? I don't appreciate the "10% off your next shop at the Coop" coupons but I'm sure many do...

Kind of like that one about (insert famous sex offender) getting you to milk a cow blindfold-repeated ad nauseam and so nothing witty about doing so again.

However we only get to hear about those who are famous we don't get to here of the other 75% as the media don't find them newsworthy

I would like to hear about the rest though, the bloody media annoy people about honours as they only concentrate on the famous ( mind you some of them are very deserving for what they done with charities etc ) or ones the politicians have forced upon the honours committee , it would be interesting to see the stories of others.

His tax scandal is overlooked, but not Lester Piggot's
He definitely deserves an honour. The Queen should issue a royal pardon and give him a knighthood... Unlike other Knights he actually knows how to ride a horse

I think anyone who doesn't find him even a little bit funny must have had their sense of humour surgically extracted!

He's funny but I don't think anyone who was clearly avoiding tax should be getting anything. Mind you, we can't be far off 'Sir' Gary Barlow and he's a tax-dodging little Tory tosspot. To have the audacity to ask poor people to donate to charity whilst he sits there on his millions in offshore accounts just really irritates me.

Being found Not Guilty has a lot to do with that as it should.

Have you seen this? The full list, but brief info.
