That's what I meant. CBB18 followed a more successful BB17 whereas CBB16 followed BB16. CBB16 and CBB19 had lowest ratings for launch following lowest rated series. CBB18 launch climbed to higher than previous 2 summer launches following the civilian which was also the highest in 2 years as an average.
So the poorer the series, the launch of the next series suffers. Only time this wasn't the case recently was BB15 following CBB13 The cast on paper IS poor but most people didn't know that when tuning in as not a lot read rumours. How would they know it was a poor lineup, and deciding to not tune in? We don't know whether the series will succeed until the next few ratings. I think I'll enjoy this series more than last summer based on first impression In any case, I'm not convinced by that theory about launch night ratings. I can't find a launch night rating for bb4, but bb5 had more viewers for its first show than bb3 did, even though it followed bb4, and bb7 had more than bb6 even though bb6 had followed the very successful bb5. If the theory were right, bb6 would have had the higher number. I also think people tend to overinterpret launch night ratings. The cast wasn't just poor on paper. They remained poor throughout launch night, and though I haven't watched since nothing in the forum makes it sound like they've become any better. (Since the launch night rating is an average, btw, it can be down because viewers don't watch the whole show, and not only because they didn't watch at all. Viewers could have been turned off what what they saw of the cast even if they hadn't read anything in advance, and that could have made a difference. But in any case, I don't think it makes sense to think that the previous series is the strongest influence on whether people check out the next one.) |

Think this one will easily be the worst rating winter one yet.
I think it has a good chance of it being the lowest ratings one ever |

The problem with this series is that it's fairly inaccessible to anyone who hasn't watched the show religiously every series in the past. The only previous series I watched of the HMs in there was Austins, so I've not got a clue who any of the other 'All stars' are, other than Coleen who I know from Loose Women.
I've found watching this series they've assumed I know who previous HMs are, what their traits are, what I'm already supposed to think of them and based on that care how they interact. But I don't because I'm only just learning who they are. "Oooh it's Speidi" Rylan: Don't get me started on Speidi Me: Who the **** are Speidi? They've made no effort really to explain anything or to edit the show in a way that would help people unfamiliar with the characters. In some sense it feels like I've tuned in for the first time at day 27 and have no idea what's going on. For people like me who didn't come into the series with an in-depth knowledge of half the cast it's quite alienating. Made even more so by the fact other than that the main thrust of the show seems to be conversations about their relationship on the outside with celebrities I barely take interest in. |

Tbh on launch night they did explain in brief and show a clip of an All Star during their first series. They discussed it a bit on BOTS too.

They discuss it on BOTS like people know who they are and are familiar with their previous appearances on the show. I get Rylan has beef with Speidi, other than the brief 4 second clip of him losing it in the kitchen they showed, I've got no idea why. It's a very 'insider' series so far.
- Nicola had several breakdowns but you don;t really need to visit the series to get "her story" - James was a huge WUM and was awful towards Gary Busey and he had an ongoing feud with Audley Harrison. - Speidi was awful to everyone in the series. Rylan was the only person to defend himself really. They made several HMs cry and laughed when people lost their letters from home etc... - You don't need to know anything about Colleen really - Jasmine was in a triangle with Casey and Lee. Everyone felt sorry for Casey, so much so that an unknown like her went further than Lee Ryan. Jasmine was very flirty - Callum did nothing of note in his series except lose his rag with Perez once or twice. |

1.7m- first live show 1.4m- second live show What does everyone else think? There's a big match on BBC1 tonight, Man City, so that will take viewers and it's a Friday which doesn't do as well nowadays. I'm saying 1.6m and 1.3m. But like last year the later show will surge in officials, they got huge boosts of around 800k last year! |
