Went to have a shower this morning but when I turned it on there was no water flowing.I could feel the water in the hose but nothing came from the shower head.I had this problem about three months ago and I descaled the head which seemed to work.This time I tried three different shower heads with the same result.Luckily we have a second shower.The shower is a Triton Cara 9.5kw.Luckily it is still under guarantee untill the 14th of Jan but just wondered if anyone could suggest something I could do/check before calling Triton.

what happens when you run it with no shower head?

Also check it has power (see Consumer Unit Trip Switch) and water pressure is OK by running cold taps for a couple of minutes or so.

No water comes from the hose when there is no showerhead fitted although if I turn the temperature up the hose gets warm as though there is hot water in it which cannot get out all the water taps are normal

In what sense can you feel the water in the hose? If the hose is getting warm is this just at the 'unit end' or does it get warm all the way along? Sounds like the descaling might not have been the fix.
It is making the right noise? Plus or minus (remark above) pump?

Some do, some don't - depends on the water pressure that's available I think - some have external pumps separate from the main unit which switch on as soon as they detect the pressure change when you turn the tap.

If no water is flowing, an electric shower will overheat very quickly, and thermal protection will shut it down.

What happens if you you try to run it cold?

That's a "power shower". They don't heat the water electrically, but the pump boosts the pressure from the hot water system. The OP has a normal electric shower that uses the available cold water pressure, and heats the water as it passes through the shower. So the flow rate determines the temperature.

Or your local Electrician before you take up on someone's advise and blow yourself up!

I have just gone to try it again and this time the water was flowing from the hose(No showerhead fitted) so put showerhead back on and placed it back on it's rest turned it on and fine.Do not understand as I tried 3 different showerheads on hot and cold and 15 mins later fine.Think I will still ring Triton and see what they say.Thank's for all the replies

Yes I am aware of that, though most people don't bother to differentiate and/or don't care unless they are installing one, hence trying to get the details right before assuming that someone either doesn't know what they are talking about, or has used the precise terminology and/or correct model name/number, and allowing for the fact that not everybody in a particular thread is a plumber/electrician.

is there a filter of some sort?

i`m thinking of the kind of situation that a car has with fuel filters and temporary blockages.

If this was a few years ago i would have said frozen shower ice blockage which i remember many years ago happening in the winter time. Yes fun times.

There is an inlet filter, but it's probably not something I'd want to encourage the OP to have a go at cleaning...

But yes, it sounds like there's some debris that shouldn't be there.

Was there any water flowing from the basin or bath taps during the time it didn't flow through the shower hose?

What happens if you disconnect the hose itself, not just the head? (But be careful if the water is likely to flow onto the floor.)

Do the right lights come on on the shower unit? Does a low pressure light come on? Does the shower have a cold setting (ie. unheated not just cool), if so does that work? Is there a service valve (like a normal valve but operated by screwdriver) on the pipe to the shower that someone may have turned off?

I'm surprised the hose would get warm as these would cut out if there was no flow. It could be a fault if it has an electrically operated valve inside that is not coming on. (But don't try opening it to investigate!)

Could have been an airlock. If I get one, I drop the showerhead to the floor and turn on the shower, which seems to pull the airlock through and after a minute of gurgling and spluttering it clears itself and all ends well.

Air in the system can prove fatal for electric showers. Does this happen only after you've drained down some other part of your plumbing? If so, you really ought to go through the proper commissioning procedure before using the shower again. I'm not sure why else it would happen, unless you have a leak somewhere.

Yes all the taps were normal

Have not tried taking the actual off but will if it happens again and I do have a spare hose.This model does not have a low water pressure light It oes not have a cold setting I just turn the temperature down.There is only oe light which is the power light which is always on.No service valve I can see.

The model you claimed to have in your OP has a power selector switch: "high", "econ" and "cold". The temperature adjustment is just a flow control.

Yes thats correct I control the temperature by by moving the dial in the direction of the red arrow for warm and the blue arrow for colder.
And there is the dial for Hot,cold and what I call medium which I use in the summer I now have it on high and adjust it using the other dial.The hotter the water is the less powerful it is.
