As per the title really!

The remote control on my BT branded YouView box died last night and I need to get a replacement. I know I can order one from the BT Shop for £20 but it won't be here for a while so need something a little more urgently.

I've tried Argos, Tesco and Maplin but they only stock the actual STBs, and not the remote control, and I'd prefer not to get a universal/one for all type one.

Any ideas where I can get one on the high street?

Thanks

Probably nowhere, it's unlikely retailers would stock obscure remote controls.

Sadly, its strictly online only for the original remotes. Unless you can find an eBay auction ending today and can agree to collect it in person, you're probably not going to get the original for a few days. Amazon might get you one on Tuesday (cruelly, Manchester does not have same day evening delivery) if you're prepared to pay for the postage and packaging or you could chance eBay for a chance to get it this week.

Currys PC World and B&M Bargains do the universal remotes and they're the only place I know that does them where you'll get a remote control today. Maybe get a cheap universal one today to tide you over and order an original remote to arrive later in the week.

I got one on ebay after my old one quit for £14. A bonus was that it didn't have the stupid clicky buttons that the old one did.

Asda used to sell a cheap universal remote that had IR codes for almost everything pre programed in it's memory.

As a temporary measure you could just use a PC keyboard.
For which keys do what see

Additionally the 'i' key acts the same as the info button on the remote. This is mentioned in the blurb but not on the keyboard pictures as it is fairly recent addition.

I use a mini 2.4GHz wireless keyboard (£8) as I prefer it to any of the Humax/BT remotes.
F4 takes you direct to the recordings, and entering search text is very easy!

Are you aware that all Humax made Youview boxes use the same remote code set whether they are BT badged or Humax badged?

Treat yourself to a late Christmas present and get a Logitech Harmony universal remote.

Problem solved!

I ordered one from eBay but it was going to be delivered next Thursday at the earliest so took the advice of my dad in situations like this...

If in doubt, tw*t it

And it worked! A good stern hit of the remote on my knee and it came back to life Probably only a temporary fix, but it'll do for now.

Thanks for the help and suggestions folks

That's poor battery contacts then. Clean them.
