Absolutely. Blinking genius, and I don't bandy that word about lightly. The Kinks music has given me many hours of pleasure and with their run of albums from '66 to '70 I think only The Beatles (just) rank higher.

Typically modest comment from him about it, too. Says he thought about it before accepting ('Yes Sir? No Sir?' Any 'Arthur....' fans out there? ), but it's not just for him, but for his family and fans. Good lad.

I would have rather he just stayed Ray, a genius like him should never be in a club with Elton bleeding John

Ray's certainly "A Well Respected Man".

One of my fave songwriters.

No argument with the award but not an award I was expecting.

One of the greats.

Now reform The Kinks.

Good, and not before time. Ray Davies wrote some of the finest songs of the last 50 years and refused to sell out to America, spending his life in his beloved London.

I've seen a rumour that they might be playing Glastonbury - if that's true, a new tour might even happen!

That's because they were banned from going to the USA - their loss though.
