I've watched SW since the start and it's become increasingly politicised
Now naive vulnerable Nicky will take some illegal migrant into her home at risk of losing her job blah blah It is indeed rolly eyes time.....and maybe time to call it a day The drama itself has always been quite political, but here they are straying into very left-wing ideas, with the authorities really playing the baddies...Just waiting for the pantomime 'boos' everytime they appear! Of course the 'angelic' do-gooding Nikki is really overstepping what is reasonable behaviour, but then they always do don't they in this drama? I believe the writer/BBC are definitely, so far anyway, pushing their political agenda here. I'll watch until the end though, as maybe things will change and the ramifications of Nikki's actions may come back to bite her on the b*m, like the proverbial crocodile in the panto!

This programme is like a very poor Scooby Doo cartoon without the humour or acting skills of the dog!
With a side portion of "right on" views on immigration from the BBC |

The BBC " Does not " have a political message, that's made up, a recent survey in USA put the BBC as a very neutral and good news organisation like Reuters.
Facts not opinions. Anyway ....more dead bodies for Nicky et Al ...bring on tomorrow |

The programme has always been a bit unrealistic, but no-one in authority would behave like Nikki has with the immigrant girl. They would be dismissed immediately if there was even a hint of that happening.

I used to love watching Silent Witness but lost interest when Harry left and the other character was blown up. Then the stories went haywire, including this one.
Never been keen on Jack. He's too moody and likes playing the detective. Clarissa is ok. |

Like you kept repeating yourself... this is drama lol not a news program.
I would consider myself a lefty, but you have got to be blind to not think this is somewhat politicised drama ![]() ![]() |

Another drama with terrible sound quality. Nikki's dialogue was accompanied with a hissing every time she spoke. Not as often with the other actors. Does Emilia speak too quietly and they have to boost her voice too much or was she badly miked?
Shocking standard for mainstream telly. |

Apart from any other plot hole, how did the girl with a broken arm turn up in Nikki's Loo?, and what is Prince William doing as a copper.

It's a decent way to while away an hour, but have to agree there is a tiresome amount of finger-wagging going on, and as usual, it's the thick coppers and uncaring authorities being lectured on their moral and intellectual shortcomings by the saintly Nikki and the forensic team. It's a good job they are there to show the cops how to run an investigation otherwise nothing would ever get solved!
Not being completely au-fait with procedure, is it the norm that the forensic team follow the police everywhere on a case, interview suspects and witnesses on their own, and collect evidence as they like? I know it's a drama not a documentary but… Had a laugh at the scene with the vultures (sorry- buzzards) circling overhead like in an old time western leading them to the bodies. I would think that any van left like that in open woodland in any part of SE England would have been noticed in minutes!! Also- the guy thrown off the roof had an arterial wound that spurted blood all over the windows on the way down but that somehow cleaned itself up when he hit the ground, leaving a tiny "wound" visible only by flashlight in the morgue?? |

It is so unrealistic, the way the forensic team leap about solving crimes and leading the police around doing their job. The police would have crow-barred the van open at the end, not the forensic guy. Just makes it so frustrating to watch.
And saintly, never put a foot wrong Nikki preaching at us......grrrrrr! |

Despite what everyone seems to think, realism, reasonableness and consistency are not compulsory features of a decent drama.
It's fiction, folks, not a party political broadcast. Oh, wait a minute... |

A good series but the reality of the programme is very far removed from reality insofar that a team of forensic pathologists solve crimes rather than the police just doesn't happen.

You mean I've been watching SW for 20 years and now you're suddenly telling me that forensic teams don't go around with the Police in real life? Crazy days!
![]() Its interesting though, there have been a few real life crimes dramatisations recently that were set in earlier times - such as Rillington Place and In Plain Sight - that potentially would have been wrapped up much sooner and saved lives if the forensic expertise that we have now had been available then. Police had to work really hard to get a conviction even when they suspected and tried the corrected the correct individual. Pathologists and Forensic Scientists may not work with detectives to quite the degree depicted in Silent Witness, but its just a TV drama, and it does reflect real life importance of cases where forensics often the play the key role in securing a conviction over and above regular detective work. Predictable response regarding BBC, Syria, Politics etc... Specifically what 'political' point does anyone think the BBC is making? |

<more snippage> Had a laugh at the scene with the vultures (sorry- buzzards) circling overhead like in an old time western leading them to the bodies. Also- the guy thrown off the roof had an arterial wound that spurted blood all over the windows on the way down but that somehow cleaned itself up when he hit the ground, leaving a tiny "wound" visible only by flashlight in the morgue?? The 2 posters above have already raised most of the points which irritated me (to varying degrees) - but there were also the disappearing coppers early on and the "(wide) open door" policy seemingly in place at the Lyell Centre, ironically not extending to those with legitimate reason to be sniffing around (i.e. the police), also raised by others upthread. Still, I'll be watching again tonight and I did like the 'Dr Google' line.
