The 80s saw a slew of long running cartoon epics, among them;

Dogtanian and the Three Muskerhounds

Ulysses 31

The Mysterious Cities of Gold

Around the World with Willie Fogg

Which was your favourite and why? also do you remember others that are not listed above?

Main ones i remember from the 80's are..... Dangermouse, Bananaman and Inspector Gadget. Probably because they were humorous to us adults as well.

Tarzan Lord of the Jungle, Spider-Man, Battle of the Planets, Willo the Wisp and Ivor the Engine. (Most of these might be late 70s rather than 80s).

My favourites were:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Real Ghostbusters
Thundercats
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers
Defenders of the Earth

I also liked the 80s Spider-Man series, before it was replaced with Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. Doesn't hold a candle to the 90s series, but good for it's time.

Some of these cartoons still hold up well today, I can still enjoy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Real Ghostbusters and Season 1 of Thundercats, for example. Whilst some others are probably best left in the realm of nostalgia, eg. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is pretty terrible when watching as an adult lol.

I had forgotten all about this one until you mentioned it. I checked on YouTube and I did used to watch it as a child.

The 80's produced some brilliant cartoon series. We shouldn't forget Fantastic Max, Pigeon Street, The Shoe People, Centurions, M.A.S.K.

I was in my mid 20's when i used to watch it
The stories in it often had some sort of moral to them..... Although i just found the toon funny in a weird sort of way.

I prefered the earlier ones iike Valley of the Dinosaurs, The Flintstones, Top Cat, Wacky Races, Dasterdly and Mutley and Scooby Doo (before Scrappy), but a couple of 80's one I did enjoy were The Racoons and the Adventures of Conan.

Not even close. 1974! The true golden age though. Those 80s kids will never know what they missed!

Mysterious Cities of Gold was the best animated series of the 80s. It had a proper serialised story, it went on for ages and the story got crazier and crazier with what started as a quest for gold ended up with an ancient alien race getting involved.

I thought I was the only person who remembered that. ^^

Nobody has mentioned the awesome Battle of the Planets, although it may have been even earlier than the 80's and been late 70's

Edit: Apologies, it has been mentioned above.

I used to like The Space Sentinels, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, Dogtanian, Around the World with Willy Fog, Jamie and the Magic Torch, Chorlton and the Wheelies.

One that I hated at the time, but have since grown to love it, was the original fuzzy-felt type animated version of The Moomins.

I'm just more towards the Inspector!

Of course the worst thing that happened was when they decided to remake it with PP speaking, think it was on C5 - that was just wrong IMO.
