I think the OP is being a bit harsh to be honest. I was having a drink in The Rovers the other day with Kirk and he was telling me that he felt Einstein was slightly wide of the mark with his Theory Of Relativity and that E would only = mc squared if the original cosine alpha was a constant. I contested this theory, saying, quite rightly in my opinion, that the value of alpha in this instance was equal to or less than zero. Kirk smiled knowingly and said that I'd fallen into the trap of assuming that Pythagoras had overlooked the properties of unequal ratio tangents. At that point, Maria came in and asked if anyone saw that fat bloke on Celebrity Coach Trip last night.

He was always suspicious of Einstein. He regarded him as a shell game artist. Kirks conclusions were based on dog behavior he observed when he managed a bed and biscuit for his parents. Not content to trust his equations he ran it by Ken who assured him he had reached the same conclusion when he took Eccles down to the canal for many years to see the lady on the barge. The speed and distance were there but were never absolute. I may be quoting Ken wrong as he had forgotten not to whisper out of the side of his mouth.

Can't disagree with a word. Good, honest common sense.

I reckon if, for some bizarre reason, Stephen Hawkin moved in the square, he'd end up flogging tat on the market or making tea and toast in the cafe.

And would be dressed up in a costume at Halloween and would have Xmas dinner at The Vic because they have got "more than enough" turkey.

Typical politicians mistake...not crediting the public with any sort of intelligence

Why single out those two aspects.

They don't promote

fidelity
monogamy
living off benefits
going to the police
deciding not to murder someone
safe sex
not physically assaulting someone

I'm sure if I put my mind to it there are loads more things that soaps don't promote

I wonder how Homer Simpson would fit in on coronation street and in what industry or position he would be employed in. I could see him as a barkeep with a towel, shoulder to shoulder with Sean. It might dispel the myth about soaps not promoting ambition.

Abi failed her A-levels and got a place through clearing. She blamed Lauren for it because of all the upset/fuss her alcoholism caused for the family and Max for, well being Max. You're right that she's never considered re-sits though; I think she might be working at the vets to use as "life experience" as some courses will accept you as a "mature" student (ie not straight out of school or after a gap year) with lower academic results if you have related work or life experience.

Tamwar was bright enough to go to Oxford with Libby, but decided that Uni was not for him. It was always on the cards that he would eventually go ( he had a college fund, until Mas gambled it away) but he never choose to.

Shabnam must have had qualifications as she was a pharmacist during her second stint and I believe Bradley had a degree in accountancy or something.

Sonia Fowler became a nurse so she must have got the qualifications.

What you don't realise is that I have modelled my life on Homer Simpson. That' s how bear-led by TV I am. If Homer jumped off the Forth Bridge, I' d be right there after him

It makes a change from friends and family who respectively chose to model themselves on: the cigar-smoking man from the X Files, Alexis Colby, Waynetta Slob and the Sheriff of Nottingham.....

Bradley didn't have a degree as he was only 17 when he arrived (he turned 18 around the time of Staceys abortion iirc) and working full time though it was Accounts related I think.

It's possible he might have been studying domething AAT or CIMA part time but it was never mentioned.

Yes, Shabnam and Sonia must both have degrees in Pharmacy and Nursing respectively.

I'm sure Tamwar didn't get the necessary grades for Oxford and instead of applying elsewhere through Clearing he just decidednot to go at all. Rather stupidly imo.

I have spread the word around all my neighbors in the trailer park and they're impressed there are others who still hold Homey in high esteem. He mirrors our values and yours, you are to be commended.

Mick has never considered his son might need encouragement to gain academic qualifications or a profession, as clearly he hasn't gained any skills from his army career. Let's rejoice in educational achievement rather than ridicule anyone wanting to better themselves.”

Johnny is at University but we never see him there.
