I was looking forward to this but what a rubbish way to cover the material - pad it out with waffle and then, even when they show the actual footage, they keep cutting away from it to show the likes of Jodie Lawrence and Ronnie Wood laughing at it. Typical Channel 4 - patronising, lazy and aimless.

Their disgusting Derek and Clive 'sketches' put me right off them. Only 'I've got nothing against your right leg, trouble is neither have you' is mildly amusing.

Problem is that they were stretching 5 minutes of new material of variable quality into 50 minutes of programming. The best parts were the sketches that we have seen before. I would rather have seen those in their entirety.

It's just sadly the way C4 does things these days - if there weren't enough clips to sustain a programme, common sense would suggest there's no programme to make. Instead they decide audiences will really love to hear about a clip, then see tiny bits of it interrupted with shots of random celebs laughing whilst sipping from the beverage of their choice. It's woeful programme making.

Perhaps you had to be there.....

Half the fun was seeing how quickly Peter could make Dudley collapse with laughter. I loved them both at the time, though I agree with Ess_Bee about the Derek and Clive stuff putting me off them.

The programme was dire. It could have been good if we'd seen more of the sketches, with maybe a few comments from people who'd worked with them, like Humphries, but what's Ronnie Wood got to do with anything?

An hour was far too long for the tiny amount of material they had.

Very disappointing.

I really like the derek and clive stuff. Both that, and the regular pete and dud stuff.

Both brilliant for very different reasons....

I don't like it when people look at other people to see if they're laughing, let alone sticking a camera in somebody's face and filming it. For all we know they could have just got them to pretend to be amused for 5 minutes and edited the laughs in later.

Anyway, I agree with most other viewers, it was padded out, disjointed and excruciating to watch, I'd rather have watched one or two of the unlost episodes which, incidentally, have also failed to see the light of day in recent years.

It's not just channel 4.
When showing archive footage of anyone in show business, producers often seem to think we want to listen to the opinions, of people who had absolutely no connection with them. The excuse is often "because they liked them" As if we cared who they like.

Unshown for 40/50 yrs my foot.

The Comedy Channel showed a series of specially-made Aussie series by Dave Allen, The Two Ronnies and Pete and Dud a few years ago. Which included the Aussie sketches seen here.

I found the talking heads equally, annoying.....Seemed that they had to fill the missing space with something , so they filled it with their irrelevant comments. The only one who had any relevance to the sketches was Barry Humphreys, his contribution was quite insightful, probably because he had worked at Peter Cooks establishment here in the UK

Really? For me it had the opposite effect. And now it's back to topless darts at Roehampton.

I've no doubt there want enough rare material to fill a program. That's the definition of rare. So fine, get some talking heads for insights and responses. But put them between the material and let us see this rare stuff in its entirety. We know it's fun whilst we watch it, we don't need to see someone laughing to tell us.
I've seen many programs showing the Morcambe and Wise "André Preview" orchestra sketch, but never in unbroken wonderful entirety. Finally I went to YouTube for it.

Josie Lawrence seemed especially easily pleased though I suppose part of getting the gig in the blether-chorus was a willingness to treat these rather threadbare bits and pieces like comedy gold. Amusing though to hear the screeching gear change as Lawrence had to try and deal with the Australian gay sketch.

Did they claim the bus sketch to be an unseen clip as I'm fairly sure it was on the BBC4 Peter Cook documentary that Victor Lewis-Smith presented just last month (and in doing a search to try and confirm that I've only just found that Cook's widow Lin who was inerviewed extensively for it, and who's opening up of his archive was the point of the programme, died just days after it was broadcast).

I had to watch this as OH insisted on having it on, I'm sorry but I have to say I just don't find them that funny - just my opinion; the sound quality was very poor.

"Corpsing" used to be amusing years ago when it actually did happen.
The first programmes of "It'll be alright on the Night" was when the artists realised they could earn and extra bob or two by " corpsing". and it would be repeated on IWBARON . How we all laughed.
However Dudley Moore had it down to a fine art . It was expected of him.
How people laughed!
Same last night in these episodes when the guest celebs couldn't stop laughing at him laughing - if you get my drift.
Used to find corpsing funny until I realised it was done on purpose by some to get a bit of extra "mula" I am sure. Maybe wrong. I am sure I will be told that.

I reckon that Phil and Holly regularly crack up on This Morning in the belief that viewers find it adorable.

But when Dudley did it it was adorable.

Funnily, in the sixties I thought Dudley was the sexiest thing on two legs (or even one leg), but watching them last night it was Peter I found far more fanciable. Sorry, no relevance to anything, I know, I'm just musing......

I found the talking heads disturbingly bad at pretending to laugh.
