The unemployment then (70s) was caused by them closing industry. I could still walk in and out of jobs on a daily basis, and I did.
I worked a week at Thorns a few days at Goray's a few days in Tesco It was nothing like it is now. I have never heard that about wimpy before (or other restaurants) and its crap as far as my life was concerned as I was always in wimpy alone waiting for my friends to turn up for our nights out .. That does not make any sense..

Its the same now except you don't have any family round you and you don't know everyone in your street. Good things have gone leaving mostly the bad.
People still travelled had holidays had a working week and job security. Were paid overtime and were not fed consumerism 24 hours a day. Mum could stay at home and bring up the children or go to work, most people could live on one wage then
Life was simpler.

That is fine. Those who wanted to move away could. Nothing ever stopped those who wanted to leave their home town or the country. Emigrating was very simple.

Wasn't like that where I lived, we had gay friends and family ( we didn't really know about Trans then) I had two gay uncles but thinking about it now it was not a big deal no one really cared about their private life but then I did live in London , so probably not like that elsewhere and still not like that in many places.
People still had secrets but no one had to go anything alone if they didn't want to.
When I was a kid summers were hot and long ,winter we had so much snow ,but in reality it wasn't we all look back with rose tinted specs on ,we remember the good times

These things still happen today. One thing which hasn't changed.
It was better in my view, you could screw the government and your employers so much easier, everyone had touches from work which meant the black market was thriving, these things gave you the feeling you were in control, now it's just get on the credit and work til you drop dead

Mainly because people have more fun when they're young and healthy, so we look back at times of youth through rose-coloured glasses.
I read the memoirs of a lady who used to be a housemaid during the 20s. The book was basically one long moan that her life in the 20s/30s was rubbish and also that things aren't as good as they used to be. At one point she said that spiders don't make webs like they used to.

Yes, people want to cherry pick the good bits from different eras, instead of trying to improve things right now.
As you get older you realise you've seen enormous changes in many things, something as simple as a telephone, when I was a child we had to either run to the village or if it was a dire emergency run three doors down to ask to use theirs, to today carrying one in my handbag that does much more than just phone calls. A big plus.
But You also see behaviours tolerated now that would never have been allowed in your early life and that IMO is why people think it was better before, as kids we knew our places never spoke unless spoken to and certainly never shouted at an adult, now your lucky not be be sworn at when walking along the street by kids !
I'm sure life is better now, I'm rarely cold or hungry lie we were years ago but I'm not sure I wouldn't swap some of that for a more polite society.

Some things were better in the past, some things are better now, some things haven't changed.
In many ways, we've never had it so good. Take a good look around and we have much to be thankful for, while having a fair bit to do to put right some of the problems we face.

I think also the reason some people say it was not like it was in the Good old days is that we never had Health and Safety with people that we dont know telling us what we should and should not be doing. And we could do a lot more things which were a bit dangerous without worrying if we are going to hurt ourselves in the process
Also we never had Political correctness and people could say what they want and it would not offend anyone. These days you have to be careful at what you say as people can be easily offended these days
Also too much technology is taking over our lives especially smartphones as nearly everyone has one. And it seems that we cant live without them either which is strange as i remember life without smartphones and the Internet
