I thought Dundee was stuck in the past but your thread title has confirmed it.

I think as far as relegation goes, the bottom three sides will go down at the end

I wouldn't right us off for a top four place just yet, only Chelsea are on a better run of results than ourselves.

Well the obvious thing to say is that Leicester City are having a really good season. I don't see them winning the league, and in reality they probably will have a battle to stay in the top 4, but they will most likely at least get into the top 6 and get some sort of European football.

It's a strange season I can see fifth, sixth place having more points that ever before maybe a good 70 plus but still missing out on champions league .
Man united are on a good run but those above still keep winning although city may well be outside the top 4 after today |

Depends on how you define run of games ie last 4 results no, last 6 results yes, last 10 results no. So if you choose the stat selectively you can make that comment. Bit overall the only stat that counts is the league position and clearly there are 5 teams on a better run of games.

How are City on a better run of games then us, they lots yesterday, and lost at Leicester not to long ago, whilst we have won six games in a row, strange way to look and say that a team has been performing better than us in that respect.

It should be a very interesting 2nd half of the season. Chelsea's run will end, but Conte seems to have gained an immediate grasp of the EPL so he'll adjust things accordingly.
On the evidence of yesterday's game, Liverpool are now better at digging in and winning when they aren't playing the flamboyant stuff..unlike Man City. Man City's cause is not helped by having a dodgy keeper either. Arsenal could still use a striker, though Walcott has stepped up recently and Sanchez will always be a danger. Spurs are strong in defence and with Kane back on form they're going to be a threat. If either of the North London clubs go on an extended run of wins they could win the title. Mourinho seems to have finally found a way to get the most out of his signings, and a few of the players who were there before his arrival. They're beginning to look like a settled team rather than an experiment every week. They've caught up a lot of ground, only 3 points behind Man City now. The top six appears to be settled but I've a feeling Man Utd might squeeze into the top four, with Man City and Spurs missing out. Liverpool or Chelsea as champions. United in 3rd place. Arsenal have to be 4th, it's an unwritten law. |

I didn't mention city, you said that apart from chelsea, you were on the best run. I said only if you select which stat you are going to use to back up that comment. All the other stats I used show that Liverpool are on equal or better run of games. So your point about being 2nd to Chelsea is incorrect.
Arsenal getting beat at Everton, the same goes for them. Liverpool fair enough, a decent argument could be made for them, but five teams is pushing things. |

You said there are five teams on a better run of games, please then list these five teams for me, as getting beat in two games quite recently to me means that City are not one of those sides.

Did you read my post. I finished by saying in terms of stats, the only one that matters is the current league position, which shows there are 5 teams with a better run of games this season. As your nemesis cantona07 used to say you are getting into the realms of whataboutary. What you have done over the last 6 games has as much relevance as the previous 13 in where you will eventually finish in the league. What is important is what you do in the last 19. We all know that any team go on a run of good form, but can also dip out of form, which will contribute to the final league positions.
![]() Current league position fair enough, it is still very tight, be interesting to see what the result is when Spurs play Chelsea very shortly. |

Batdude is right they are on the second best run at the moment.
Still don't think they will be top 4 inferior goal difference would united have scored four at Watford probably not as they tend to hang on for one nils or two ones. United don't win enough big games either |

Like the very start of the season, United are impressively collecting points against moderate opposition and their recent fixtures have been kind to them when it comes to looking at the current form table. Even then, a lack of goals compared to the five teams above them has led to some tighter games. The only notable scalp was Spurs and this represents United's sole success against the teams above them to date.
The football's getting better though and unlike some I'm not too prideful to admit anything more than a defeat on January 15th for Liverpool at Old Trafford will be a bonus as it's never an easy ride. However, it's that game and the away trips to City, Spurs and Arsenal that will dictate a top 4 finish, not the last five games. Chelsea are clearly the best all-round team and like Liverpool, have no European distractions - but they've yet to suffer any real key lengthy injuries which is always a risk. I like Spurs as an all-round side too but they've taken a while to shake the trauma of the end of last season off. Arsenal have the players but someone the mentality is still questionable as are the tactics and that must be down to the manager. Hard to predict. City are suffering from not having the energy or willingness to fully commit to Pep's style of play and injuries haven't helped them at all either. May need to reinforce in January to add some spark and kick-start things again. And that just leaves LIverpool if we're talking Top 4. Klopp clearly wants goals and work-rate from all areas of the pitch and Mane was a good buy to that end. We're sharing the goals around and aren't as reliant on Coutinho amd the strikers as we once were. Keepers are a concern but Matip has helped defensively when fit. No Europe is definitely helping maintain the insane pressing and intensity too, so I'm hopeful we can sustain things, especially given given the impressive 11 points we've earned from our five rivals for Top 4 honours. Generally, goals scored coupled with a healthy goal difference suggest the current top five might be harder to dislodge if those trends continue. Conversely, as far as relegation goes, I always feel goals conceded and goal difference show the poorest sides hence why I can't look beyond the current bottom three. |

On both of the 2 most commonly mentioned metrics used when talking about teams in good form United were ahead of Liverpool at the time that post was made. Now can that sometimes be misleading? Yes. United were undefeated in 10 to Liverpool's 5 and Liverpool claimed 1 more point during those 10 games. Still, that's how people often frame form particularly when the word "run" is used, as it's a run of consecutive games when "x" happened or a run of games since "x" happened. |
