I was getting prepared to be sniffy and describe it as Dawn's rampant ego-fest, but I've been much impressed with her writing, style and presentation.

How refreshing to have a celebrity who had a blissful childhood and loving parents.

It's a great mix of funny and sad stories, her story of her father's suicide was very sad.

I thought the bits about Dawn's evil granny and having to check her Mum's lady bits for glass was hilarious

Did this need to be on twice in six hours? Seems like lazy scheduling.

Not at all, bbc4 always repeat later.in the night to solve earlier recording clashes

I'm aware of that but for four hours of time in a six hour block to be just one show twice seems unfortunate. Put it on a different day.

The point being, a two hour show aired twice in 6 hours seems excessive even by their repetitious standards - Poor scheduling, especially on this day.

I found it incredibly moving especially when she talked about her dad and him telling her she was beautiful and strong

That bit moved me tremendously also. Very wise man instilling such confidence in his children, such a sad ending for him though. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole programme. Well done, Dawn!

He was a very clever man, having that chat with Dawn. I admit I cried when she spoke of his death. My dad died when I was young and what she said was so poignant.

I was surprised that she was so candid. I don't think either she or Len have ever spoken about why they adopted their daughter, whether infertility played a part (and why should they). But to hear her talking about infertility, IVF and miscarriage was very raw. The footage of her and Len bringing Billie home for the first time was beautiful. And doesn't Billie have a lovely singing voice?

A good mix of very funny anecdotes, heartfelt stuff and hand grenades lobbed at racists, journalists and Anne Diamond! I hope they got the message.

Made me laugh and well up in equal measure. A very moving and funny show. So glad I caught this last night. I missed the first showing so it was actually a good thing for me that it was repeated or I would've missed out on this surprise treat.

I thought it was Adele. Beautiful singer.

Had a real belly laugh at the bit about the queen mother.

Yes until she said "this is my daughter" I thought she was an Adele fan!
Queen Mum's visit was funny as was selecting the perfect outfit for the wedding she'd been snubbed as bridesmaid for. And who didn't get the "illegal in school" slap on to go and hang around somewhere where boys were with the express intent of ignoring them?

Sweet stories

In my opinion, she's always been an attention seeking "one trick pony."
Can't stand the woman, won't watch anything in which she appears.
If some think she's even the best thing since sliced bread, it doesn't bother me in the least.

I have just caught up with this programme and loved it. It was full of fun and sadness as well. Like most of us, Dawn has been through some very different times and emotions, but she put this over to her audience so well and it kept me interested for the entire two hours.
