From The Telegraph: 'The broadcaster has commissioned Parr to "capture an evolving portrait of modern Britain in all its diversity" for 2017, based around the theme of "oneness".'
I'm not really getting the whole "diversity" vibe with the new indents, so I'm proposing a couple of ideas to get the ball rolling:
Fly tipping in an English country lane. (Filmed with a hidden camera. Relatively low budget)
A Sharia Court in session. (perhaps a little contentious?)
Honour killing. (this one probably needs a little more thought)

Or maybe not - of the 20 or so people in the 2 idents..... there's only one person who's not white, and no-one looks under 40.

Not exactly diverse
you need to look closer:

http://metro.co.uk/2017/01/02/bbc-on...dents-6355869/

12 disabled people in one, 6 ethnic minorities in the exercise one (at least). They've hit the diversity jackpot!

The minority who don't like something always make the most noise.
78% is not a minority.

The link does not work but found it. Seems to be a newspaper survey in a local paper that was completed by 400 people. Hardly representative and a survey like that is going to be heavily biased towards complainers and also many will just fancy a moan about the BBC. I suspect the vast majority of readers of the paper will not even read the page because not bothered about a trivial thing like that.

No thought has gone in to it.

Quite ridiculous BBC Scotland has to use 'Clevedon Somerset' bathers 'cos there's nothing else.

I'm surprised Nicola hasn't raised the matter in the Scottish parliament yet.

Looks like 2 idents per month all month. So they will never build up to a full set of 24. It will just be another 2 next month, which I think might be from Wales, and then one man and his camcorder is going to work his way round the UK. But, at any given point in time, these idents will only be relevant to one BBC region.

I'm sure the controller of BBC1, charlotte Moore must know the UK (and BBC) are divided into a number of nations/regions, but I suspect when she commissioned them from this great photographer she neglected to point out some of the basic requirements of what an ident should be.

Duncan Newmarch (one of the Beeb's announcers) hasn't tweeted since Dec 26th. I'm sure he values his job too much to publicilly say what he must be thinking

And dear Tony Currie sometimes posts on DS, but, perhaps wisely, hasn't passed comment.

I bet he's read this thread though, as well as one on another forum.

It says enough about the budget that while both of the current idents are from the same region, the two locations are 15 minutes apart. Travel wasn't in the budget either apparently.

There's nothing wrong with change - if it is for the better. The idents are clearly poor, and as we all pay for the BBC - we are entitled to our opinions.
So am I and my opinion is that your wrong

what a difference - last night at 10pm they shows an ident on ITV of a man putting logs onto an open fire - contrast hat with the BBC one Swimming one and which is more welcoming on a cold frosty January night

The ITV ident will also have included the big 'colour picking' logo and a recognisable bit of music that links all the idents together. Meanwhile the BBC One one didn't.

The BBC One HD red caption screen has been ruined too, and the sound level is too loud.

Is Oneness like mindfulness? Everyone has heard of it but nobody knows what it means.

So are they "clearly poor" or is it just your opinion that they are?

Loads of people complain every time things like these change.

For every person that complains, you can bet your house there are another 100 people who really aren't bothered.

The minority who don't like something always make the most noise.
Yes, it is my opionion that they're poor - because they are! People would not bother to complain otherwise!

Although I personally can't believe ANYONE would think they're good, you're certainly entitled to think whatever you wish.....

So am I and my opinion is that your wrong
That's funny - we're both wrong then

The link doesn't work?

Was it a story with a generally negative spin on the new idents?

Either way, its also the case the majority simply don't like change. There was a thread almost identical to this one four years ago complaining about not liking the, then new, idents. And now here were are again, with people complaining about them now being replaced.

Obviously its subjective, but its also true that there are some people who just don't like change, and also some people who just like to complain.

Fair enough, that's your subjective opinion.

No - presenting your subjective opinion as some sort of objective fact is all kinds of wrong.

Although I personally can't believe ANYONE would think they're good, you're certainly entitled to think whatever you wish.....
You can't believe that anyone would have a different opinion to you?

Just wow.

Neither have difficult to understand meanings.

They really should go back to the hot air balloon idents. By far the best ones the BBC have had since the old spinning globe was retired.

Imagine the Daily Mail headline "BBC wastes 100K making a new balloon"

They can't use the old ones, because they are shot in the wrong format.

They're not in HD, but I'm pretty sure widescreen versions exist.

The Mail will complain no matter what. They'll complain about "onemess" anyway. They'll complain when a BBC employee burps without apologising

I wish we'd ignore what the Mail has to say. It's a load of rubbish anyway
