I agree, idents involving real people are the worst. They don't use real people's photos in company logos or on shop signs for that very reason.
The problem is, it would have been their 11th year in operation. The Balloon ident, which was probably the BBC's best was only in operation from 1997-2002 (5 years). The average ident lifespan has always been roughly 5 or 6 years. |

Is this the first ever time the BBC has introduced new idents on the 1st of January rather than letting the old idents last a little bit after the 1st of January?

I don't know about new logos, BBC1 could do with some new programmes, instead of series 350 of A Question Of Sport, series 351 of Have I Got News For You, (or who can read the autocue worst?) season twelve of Strictly Come Prancing. Episodes 6000 and 6050 of Holby City/Casualty, not to mention the bi-centenary of Songs of Praise Countryfile.,Flog It and Escape To The Country (or "lets boast to the neighbours we could spend a million pounds if the kitchen/"land" was big enough. But we won't")
True, they do have one new programme this decade - an amateur talent contest, nothing like the X Factor, called Let It Shine,a title which reminds me of that expression "You can't polish a turd". Simple is always best: why not a big plate of tripe with a "One" in the middle of it?

You have complained about them on this thread, the ratings thread and on TV Forum too. I'd say that's pretty obsessive! I haven't actually defended them. I said in a previous post that I don't think they're good - I have never said that. I have merely stated that they cost nothing to make in comparison to previous packages and that there are more important things to get angry about. It would have been better to show the entire series of idents today though rather than just two because this is what is making people get "angry". They look cheap and tacky because it initially appears that they haven't anymore to show. And they have.
And they don't just look cheap and tacky because there are only two of them. They look cheap and tacky because of what they are: people doing stuff with a logo slapped on top. That's not idents because they don't identify what you're watching before the logo appears. They're corporate, generic, bland and devoid of any energy or a unifying symbol. |

Have only seen the exercise one so far but that looks really poor. Are they going to be a bit like the early 2000s ones with random sets of people in them? I quite liked those - they were well choreographed and shot nicely. I quite liked some of the ones we just saw at Christmas too. But Oneness? WTF?

I would never usually comment on these, but having just seen the one with the zumba class in a village hall it looked awful. I don't know what they are trying to do.

So you want to get rid of most of BBC1's most popular programmes without really saying what you would replace them with?
Let's Take Escape To The Country: now in series 17 I believe: it consists of two people who decide they want to move to the country when they get there they don't like it and make obvious excuses not to buy. Of course, it serves a dual purpose: to allow the people taking part to boast of their financial and social aspirations and a free holiday into the bargain.Nbody says "house" they say "property" nobody ever says "garden" they say "land" and you get the idiotic 75 year olds who turn a house (sorry, property)down because the garden ("land") is only 2 acres and not 3. Barn conversions, keeping chickens and baking are the three latest buzzwords. How popular can it be at 3 in the afternoon?. If it is that popular, shove it on at 8 pm. We would thensoon see how "popular" it really is. There is barely a day in the year when Flog It doesn't clog up either BBC 1 or 2 with the concomitant frequent repeats. HIGNFY probably helps push the BBCs agenda of still fighting the EU referendum (which they also do on Radio 4's News Quiz, 40 years old now, and Now Show, about 20 years old. We will draw a discreet veil over Just A Minute (49 years old), and The Archers 66 this very day. The BBC need to try new material - there is more to life than hospital melodrama, unreal "reality" shows, baking, sewing and gardening. It's time Sue Barker hung up her jockstrap and the BBC tried a different format. A lot of these "popular" shows are a cheap way of guaranteeing jobs for life for BBC favourites. While old decrepit shows clog up the airwaves it allows nothing new to have the opportunity to become a popular favourite in the future. As for amateur talent shows, they should be ditched Cheap and cheerful they might be (to some) but people pay their licence for professional entertainment, |

If they're out of ideas and have no budget, why not just bring back the BBC hot air balloon?
![]() The iconic BBC Globe over beautiful English countryside. What could be better than that? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQsSIFoAYUo Quote:
If they were shot on film, then they can be rescanned to get a 1080 copy. If they were made on video then they would just be upscales.

Truly Awful
![]() Obviously thought up by Siobahn Sharp at the same time as they did the new BBC II! logo. Yes - we know the BBC has no money now under the new charter. Is someone just trying to reinforce the point by spending the spare 50p found down the back of the sofa on these? I just hope these are 'January Specials' as they have done in the past and will disappear by the end of the month. |

Is this what the bumpers are to be now? There's not even any music, just the announcer speaking over them. I thought "oneness" was just an Xmas gimmick, now it's turned into something vomit-inducing

The cost argument from the BBC is rubbish, they spent money on Christmas Day idents with members of the public that will never be seen again! Why wouldn't they spend that money on the January relaunch instead? |

Out of interest what would be the cost of an 'expensive' complete rebrand in comparison to say 1 hour or even 1 series of a multi location quality drama?
Considering the idents run several times a day and for many years. |

Considering the idents run several times a day and for many years. The last two sets of idents (R&M and Circles) cost in the region of £120,000-£150,000 per ident (so in the region of £720,000-£900,000 for a set of 6 idents). (Figures sourced from 1 and 2) |

They have made full use of the 'O' in One this year. Surely that was the way to go. "Oneness" is dreadful, which brown-noser thought that up and the head of continuity should be sacked for thinking it was good.... More "political correctness"

They have said at every junction "A New look BBC One" today. They won't go back to the circles. Although regional directors are apparently allowed to use "Kites" to introduce the News.
![]() Why not the riding the bikes around a circle one they sometimes used for introducing the news instead? I much preferred that one.

It would seem that they are just for 2017. Could it be that they are now going to spend a few months coming up with a proper, solid ident package in readiness for 2018?
Or, hopefully come Autumn, they will have a new ident package ready to go. Wimbledon and Six Nations and other "events" are due to get interpretations, but after the summer there isn't many events that would warrant a "Oneness" ident other than the return of Strictly. |

As licence fee payers, it's perfectly fine to be outraged at a potential waste of licence fee money...
You appear to be losing your shit over people losing their shit about channel idents. Think about that for a second... ![]() The arrogance of that statement, truly pathetic! Being a LF payer doesn't give you the right to be 'outraged' at all. This over-inflated sense of self-importance on DS over the BBC is also pathetic. BBC can't do anything right to suit a chunk of users on here and slag them off left, right and center like its some kind of bingo game. People going nuts over channel idents and roll out the 'Im a LF payer, i get to react OTT regardless' Pass me the sick bucket......! |

Why "Kites" though? It looks so depressing. Just when I thought an upside to these new idents was goodbye to the depressing looking kites ident.
