A still of "Kites" is apparently to be used for obituaries.

Lord Sugar-
'Now, for this task you've got 24 hours to create a brand new on screen identity for BBC1. On the losing team one of you will be fired. 24 hours later- 'That's a bloody disgrace. What were you thinking of? Well, I can tell you now- there ain't no winners here. You're all FIRED'. ![]() Does anybody remember the Moon circle ident from about ten years ago? It was axed very early on and I never understood why. |

They have said at every junction "A New look BBC One" today. They won't go back to the circles. Although regional directors are apparently allowed to use "Kites" to introduce the News.
Here in Wales they havent commented on any new look bar the guy after the fireworks exclaiming he didnt understand the ident either So far they seem to be using the same two and are not very regional or national |

You're absolutely right I can't believe how awful these are...words fail me. They're not seriously planning to use these indefinitely are they?! What happened to the new January idents in 2015? I hope to god these 'idents' if you can even call them that are just for January otherwise I'm emailing to complain. Any chance we can all start a petition?

So far they seem to be using the same two and are not very regional or national All morning though, the female CA kept saying, "New Year's Day, and a New Look for BBC1". So, it does seem it's just for this year! (Hopefully!) |

Finally saw them last and people weren't exaggerating, they really are terrible. Cheap, tacky and crass. They, and the Oneness nonsense, are straight out of W1A. The BBC is turning into a parody of itself.

It seems they learnt nothing from the unpopularity of the Rhythm and Movement idents.
I hope they get sufficient complaints to consider scrapping them at the end of January. |

Despite my earlier response yesterday, having now seen a couple they are truly awful, and as idents they do absolutely nothing.
They look cheap, tacky and amateurish, the marketing bods who thought that this was a neat idea should carefully consider whether they are in the right profession, as should the executives that green-lit their use. Awful, awful, awful |

Before Sherlock, the CA said "During 2017, we will be celebrating Oneness. Big moments to watch together as a nation, and what better an event inwhich to start than the return of Sherlock."
All morning though, the female CA kept saying, "New Year's Day, and a New Look for BBC1". So, it does seem it's just for this year! (Hopefully!) |

"During 2017 BBC1 is celebrating oneness. Events bringing us all together as one. Such as uniting to watch the new episode of Sherlock together." Or something like that. What total tosh! |

With any luck, in a few weeks they'll announce 'oneness' was just a temporary post-Christmas theme and the circle idents will return ASAP.
Whilst it's true that the idents don't affect the quality of the programmes, the branding of the BBC's flagship TV service shouldn't be so poor. The idents are awful.

Most people in society will hardly notice - or care - about what is used to introduce a programme. I don't want the circles back. I'm bored of them, I will just accept what is now the package until it isn't the package. Complaints to the BBC will be relatively few.

only just pick up on this ,did notice yesterday there was somthing different about BBC 1 ,1st thoughts they had gone back to the new year issues ,one of those brief after christmas spells ie LOVE 2013/14 etc. but to my suprise its a new one ,i thought they never do? cetainly a nice change ,BUT it would appear to me like its a slight change not a big one. last big change would of been the switch from the 1974-1985 globe to the computerrised globe then the 1989-90/1 switch to the 1990s globe, then to the ones we see today. this one i would see like a slight change we had in the early 1980s globe? & a simler ref to the rythme & dancers theme & the current itv theme.

I think the Hippos were pretty diverse, and certainly gave me a feeling of Oneness.
I still don't get this constant harping on about massive budget cuts, where the only evidence seems to point to an increase of RPI. Are there actual cuts or just some sort of political posturing to hide problems within the corporation? I don't know, but something doesn't add up. |

A thought occurs.
If there are to be 24 idents (which is the report I read) it implies two per month. Now logically you would think, 'Start of with 6, and build up to 24 over the next few months' But maybe the idea is '2 per month' so we are stuck with these 2 idents for all of January, followed by a different 2 for February, and so on. But seeing the same thing junction after junction for a month (even if they were any good) is just boringly repetitive. Even Carl Waering (who defends the BBC on everything) hasn't been on this thread to defend them. |

IMO the Martin Parr idents would have been more suitable for BBC Four, as many of the viewers would understand that it's video art and not just a CGI ident. I hope that this doesn't come across as "You don't really understand it, therefore you shouldn't have it", but I'd guess a fair chunk of BBC 1 viewers still have affection for the 'rotating globe'.

I haven't seen anyone ginger in them yet, is the BBC ginger phobic?
Why not have fit people in the sea? Fit shaming is a big problem these days |
