These bad idents still doesn't make Dion any better on Homes Under The Hammer.

It's challenging. Should Martin Lambie-Nairn have been asked to re-imagine the mechanical BBC 1 globe and mirror ident for today instead of this? I think so.
I made a quick mock of that.

I think the 1991 BBC1 'smokey globe' Lambie-Nairn ident was basically their answer to that brief, to be honest.
Bright, colourful idents are generally the fashion now.

BBC News still uses rotating, multi-angled, globe idents.

Going into serious news items with people messing around in water doesn't seem quite right.

Don't forget if they included animals they would have to ensure they coverEd diversity with gay and disabled animals not forgetting different shades of each
Don't forget the right mix of the religious beliefs of the animals.

Maybe, but I guarantee you it would've been full of a lot more positive comments.
I don't see how you could possibly do any such thing.

Not least because "the idea of an updated globe created by silhouetted things coming together" is a bit vague.

Taking food as an example, do you mean something like a shot from above of an English breakfast on a plate morphing into a globe?

Four protestors and clearly pre-produced banners is not really a public outcry. It is more like a group of luvvies sulking!

I don't want the circles back. But I would have liked the full set of new idents to have been ready on launch day.

Bring back the hot air Balloon hovering in various locations, that was great

Well it's only a concept, and I was typing that on my phone!

What I'd do is begin with a zoomed in shot of the UK on the globe which is made up of different objects for different idents. For example, some flowers start blooming, and then the camera pulls back to reveal the whole globe with flowers in place.

Something like that could be easily done on a PC. If you look at the idents from The Disney Channel from the late 90s, you should be able to see the different variations you can have. In fact, if the Mickey Mouse symbol was replaced with the globe somehow, these would be perfect:

The first seven when they launched were created by Lambie-Nairn, but the best ones are from 1999 where the French company GÉDÉON created loads of variations which are so vibrant and colourful. The sheer number (at least 50 to 60, including Christmas and special programmes) is fantastic!

It's a Photoshopped protest (other image editing software is available).

You do realise that was photoshopped? (I think that's the term)

Mind you- stick Oneness at the bottom of the pic, and you do indeed have a 3rd ident.

Ah, its only a concept....

But you can still guarantee that more people would like it?

Those Disney ones look a bit gimmicky to me, and a bit dated. Almost like things off something like Catchphrase. I'm not keen myself.

Well more so than the Oneness ones, yes.

Oh I think they're great! The sheer number of them means that you can have fun with it!

OK, but I think it takes quite a bit of arrogance to make the assumption that so many people would be guaranteed to like it, just because you do.

I would have thought it would be more subjective than that.

Oh I see what you mean, sorry, it wasn't meant arrogantly.

I think I sort of get it, the idents we are seeing now sort of theme around what happens in January with a New Years Day charity swim and an exercise class which exhibits the usual new year, new you focus of new year resolutions. This actually does have the potential to be quite good in that in Summer we could see a camping or festival ident for example. The problem with this though is that you would only be able to use the ones now at the start of the year like January or February with different idents for different times of the year.

To be honest though there is a high chance that I'm actually wrong and they will just use an exercise class all year in that case ignore all reference in my post where I refer to them being clever.

Whoever thought going into the main Six o'clock news using a picture of some flabby middle aged people with man boobs on view, needs their head looking at.

BBC One has been left looking like a laughing stock.

There's nothing wrong with change - if it is for the better. The idents are clearly poor, and as we all pay for the BBC - we are entitled to our opionions.

So are they "clearly poor" or is it just your opinion that they are?

Loads of people complain every time things like these change.

For every person that complains, you can bet your house there are another 100 people who really aren't bothered.

The minority who don't like something always make the most noise.

Nonsense. I love change and different things. In fact I want more change. I'm fed up of those flabby people, knee deep in freezing murky water already. Strange to see them intoduce serious stuff like the news. What a juxtaposition!
