I'm a Robbie Williams fan and I was really disappointed in his performance last night. He mostly sang out of tune and his backing singers sang the notes that he could not reach. I felt his excellent backing singers rescued him, never mind having to have the words of his own songs on autocue.

I didn't watch it because of RW. Everytime I see him on TV I actually want to punch him on top of the nose and I imagine myself doing it.

Well he didn't get to be the highest selling British artist by being rubbish. Just wiki his stats. Don't like him? Don't watch or listen to him then.

I didn't watch the program to see him - or Odoom for that matter (or should he be renamed O'Doom?) - they came with the show.
Not especially impressed anyway and as my wife said, "Cocky so-and-so, isn't he?"

I have always liked Robbie Williams so I'm not on here to bash him as many have but......I got bored. Never made it to part two and as for the dancers, I suppose if you're a man you would like it but I found it sort of weird. The hand spinning and the forward thrusting pelvis thing was all a bit odd and not for me. I watched something on my planner instead. A bit poor for New Years Eve.

I reckon you'll have a pretty handy left hook too.

I'll follow with a swift uppercut.

Well I'm grateful to RW for the alternative would have been Adele warbling away for 90 minutes. Thank god we were saved that ignominy.

Popularity is no indication of quality - just look at the ratings for soaps for example. No idea why some people think that because lots of people like something then it must be good - it just means people are easily pleased.

I thought that to be fair. Why do they do it? Itwas the same on the Brit icon show
Its the same EVERY year! We get more arty, *arty clever camera angles from behind trees, buildings etc and then of the crowd (uhmm, was it REALLY London?!!), than we get of the actual fireworks!

i dont find someone taking their trousers down on stage and then singing with their hands down thier pants entertainment, Absolutely vile character - completely innappropriate choice for NYE on BBC 1 -especially given some of his lyrics .

Turned over at 11.45 as my little 4 year got woken up by local fireworks, so she came downstairs and i thought it would be nice for her to see the fireworks and Big Ben....hmm, we were treated with RW shouting f**king idiots and vag*na, alot of out of tune singing (saved generally by his backing singers), vast amounts of shots of what turned out to be his wife and alot of crotch grabbing.

To top it off just a couple of words by David Bowie in the firework display and a hell of alot of Coldplay.
Wish i hadn't bothered.

Dreadful. Had to turn it over during his second song, when he started putting his hand down his pants.

Fair enough. There's been many acts since the 50's up to now that I've thought were overrated and I thoroughly disliked, but were nevertheless extremely popular. It's all down to individual taste, and I wouldn't go onto a forum purely for the purposes of slagging off said acts. Maybe it makes some people think their tastes in music are superior.

Well... huh... I do a lot more things other than slagging off over-rated celebs.

Adele would have been great, at least she's got a sense of humour and can be a lot more intimate with her audience. Maybe with Kylie to add a bit of eye candy.
Robbie Williams is just too full of himself. He can be great in front of 50,000 of his own adoring fans, but it doesn't really work on a NYE show for a more general TV audience..in my opinion anyway.

BIB, maybe i'm wrong, but doesn't everyone think their taste in music is superior to others? Unless they like the same type of music of course.

But yet will make passive aggressive comments criticising those with a different view point?

I'm sure it's not everybody. There do exist those of us who just accept that it's different and do not feel the need to convert the world to our taste or post "X is crap" on every website available! Robbie Williams not being to my taste I simply didn't watch the show. Why that's so hard for others to achieve I have no idea.

I didn't mention converting people onto my type of music, not sure how to came to that conclusion, i just think Pink Floyd are the best and seeing as RW was on either side of the chimes and fireworks, he was a little difficult to avoid. I like a few of his songs, he's ok, the show was awful so went to bed a couple of songs into the second half, so i think i achieved what i set out to do.
Wouldn't be much of a discussion forum if we all agreed now would it?

Well, it does contain that iconic moment. The count down to midnight, then the fireworks. It's on BBC1 so you expect them to make some kind of effort. Even parties will stop and switch on for Big Ben. Fair enough, Robbie Williams is probably still a big name, but I don't think he was the ideal choice to book-end around the celebrations.

yeah...and kylie still looked about 25 in that photo the girls took in that Scottish sweetshop she visited the day before NYE....anyway I digress!
I only watched the 'blobster' until IT WAS TIME FOR THE FIREWORKS...that was enough for me.
But really dissapointed in the supposed 'tribute' to David Bowie, which turned out to be a couple of 'bars' in the middle of another coldplay song right at the bloody end of the usual 12 minutes of expensive things going up in smoke. They've had since January to plan something.....a big FAIL from me!!

The hand sanitizer was a bit tactless, I would have popped into the wings

I thought the funniest thing was that he kept calling the presenter (Melvin) Marvin and even chanted it before the midnight countdown
