It was an enjoyable show.
The style of music played by Caravan Palace reminded me very much of that of Caro Emerald.
Yes, someone I was watching it with thought it was Caro Emerald.
The set etc always looks so sparkly and beautiful ... such a feast for the eyes as well as the ears.

I didn't know Ali Campbell and Chrissie Hynde had a thing going ... well I never!

Chrissie, bless her, was a bit of a tramp back then, she was bedding Ray Davies too.
Oi! Ms Hynde is one classy lady and not a "tramp". A sexual woman certainly with a "doing it like a dude" attitude maybe but please don't disparage her

Weren't they actually married, or was that Jim Kerr of Simple Minds? Probably both.

I saw who was going to be on it and made sure I avoided it.

The enduring thought for me is that both Jools and the audience at any of his shows are of the opinion that those appearing are far better singers/musicians are better than they actually are.
Few seem to have the time to learn their craft, these days. Others have obviously had the time but have used it unwisely or have always been rubbish.
Some who have appeared have been good, but sadly his shows are likely the only time you may get a chance to see them.
Was "Pig-sick Steve" on again?
I've heard better buskers on street corners playing for pennies.
I think it's more a question of what the big record companies hype, their taste has declined. Didn't watch this program, however I have heard Seasick Steve before and haven't liked his music.

Watched this too when I heard Ali Campbell and UB40 were performing.
What a let down. Ali vocals weren't up to it. Red Red W..... you had to fill the blanks in yourself. He looked terrible and so bloated.

Sea-sick Steve conjured up images of the film deliverance with the exception of the banjo being played. the drummer bashed the hell out of that drum.

Bag and Bone man was very good same for Gregory Porter.
ABC always deliver. Great to see Martin Fry hasn't lost his vocal ability.
Imelda May has changed completely. Really liked her performance.

Never had heard of Christine and the Queens until now - excellent.
Loved her version of Terence Trent Darby's Sign your name.

Have to wait another 12 months to see what Jules has to offer. Wonder what would happen to this show if anything happened to Jules Holland

There is no other show like Later with Jools Holland, no other show has showcased so many early talents such as Adele, KT Tunstall, Lianne La Havas, Ben Howard, Laura Marling and countless others. No show would have even dared to place a young teenager in her first TV appearance between Bjork and Paul McCartney, a young scared teenager who has gone on to become one of the biggest selling artists in the world “Adele”.

Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers credited Later as the springboard for their major breakthrough in the UK and getting the Glastonbury gig, Heloise Letissier did likewise when crediting their performance earlier last year of Tilted on Later as not only introducing Christine and the Queens to a UK audience but the you tube video of that performance as having a major impact internationally.

What other show offers such diversity blending new and established artists with a huge and diverse range of styles. It will be a very sad day if this show is lost because there is very little else around that can match it.

I cant believe we are never going to see

David Bowie
Prince

And

George Michael on Jools Annual Hootenanny ever again
Ever again? None of those artists have ever featured on the Hootenanny and only David Bowie as ever featured on Later (he had appeared twice). George Michael might have been an option if he had lived but I can't see Prince would have ever performed?
