I've only just started reading the soaps forum, I didn't know until reading some of the EE threads that Ronnie and Roxy were being killed off.

Did Rita Simons and Samantha Janus leave of their own accord, or were they axed?
Axed.

We were promised a storyline that would mean Ronnie had to leave. But actually it was a sub par story and it didnt mean she had to die

Loads of people confused on twitter about why Ronnie drowned.

Her wedding dress became tangled around her preventing her from swimming and keeping herself afloat.

That was great and all, but not worth killing off two legendary characters that have been here for just over a decade.

Did anyone notice the little-mirrored scene at the dancing party with the beer being sprayed about to there arrival trailer?

Amazing, harrowing exit and wow at that ending. It was so horrible - made me cry (so sad and creepy). The silent credits really added to it too.. but it was absolutely criminal to kill off Ronnie and Roxy and I really do think it's a decision that will be MAJORLY regretted in the future. An absolute disgrace.

How did Roxy drown exactly?
Intoxicated. Prevents you being able to swim properly. Ronnie got caught up in her wedding dress.. same thing.

Incredible, incredible episode.

Rose the bar of what soaps are capable of in the 21st century.

Every aspect was outstanding, especially the cinematography (yes, I'm using that term).

For me, the biggest bit was that it captured what a real wedding feels like. None of the usual soap cliches of a quick ceremony at the register office then the reception in the local pub. They really embraced the location and produced something that, to me, really reflected the time in which we live. The scenes with everyone dancing and enjoying themselves were sublime, especially with the shameless reference to the trailer that originally announced Ronnie and Roxy's arrival.

Might write a more detailed review later but needed to get my initial thoughts out now!

10/10.

On another note, I loved the dancing segment and the fact they paid tribute to Ronnie and Roxy's arrival with mirrored movements and of course 'The Girls' by Calvin Harris playing

I got that with Ronnies dress but why did Roxy drown ? Did her hair get caught ? No one just sinks to the bottom with no struggle ??

only thing to keep me going now was their playing Pink Floyd (another brick in the wall at around 44 min) - never in my life did I expect to hear PF in EE

That final shot was one of the eeriest yet beautiful shots I've ever seen on a soap. Bravo.

Bloody hell that was good! I am really going to miss Ronnie and Roxy, Sam and Rita are amazing, and two of the best soap characters ever, imo, their deaths were sad I thought it was well written and done. Poor Jack, and Amy. Phil is going to be heartbroken as well.

10/10-bye Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell.

Remember when we read the spoilers about these deaths and laughed at how preposterous it sounded? Well, despite some lovely cinematography and some actually realistic wedding reception action, this was just as silly as it initially sounded. Death by misadventure? Two children lose their mothers? A husband made a widower on his wedding day? Phil won't deal with this well, nor Ben, nor Jack obviously. Ronnie is the most tragic soap character ever now and I'm not saying she was an angel, but her entire story is one of misery.

We've broken the forum!

Amazing ending. So beautifully shot. A black screen. Uber-stylish. EE leading the way.

Incredible. Bring on 2017.

Eastenders will live on without them just as it has without Pat.

Roxy's dress got caught in a filter??
Only explanation for it; bodies (dead or not) are naturally buoyant, so even in the case of drowning, they'll naturally float.

Thanks.

I'm really shocked tbh. Even more shocked they decided to kill them both off.
