Does it seem weird to you that in three years it'll be 2020?

I can't wait for the 2020s decade to start! o

It doesn't feel like long ago since I was excited in 2009 about the start of the 2010s decade.

It does seem strange that years mentioned as futuristic in films when I was growing up are now becoming part of my reality.

It'd be weirder if it was 1720 or 2120 in three years, given it's 2017 now.

Aren't the Purge films set around then?

3 years into Trump's presidency and the concept might be a reality!

No. My 'significant' years are:-

1984 (because of the Orwell novel)

and

2001
2010
2061
3001

because of the Arthur C. Clarke books.

It is, however, unlikely that I shall make it to 2061.

2112 will be interesting, though I won't be here then.

I hadn't thought about it until I just saw this thread but yeah, it does seem really weird. The years have just seemed to fly by since we entered this century!

Also somewhat depressing that many of the things we were meant to have, haven't appeared. But that's always a challenge with science/speculative fiction. But that can also be a good thing, ie I used to play an RPG called 'Cyberpunk 2020' and the world's not quite as bleak as portrayed there. Or here-

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mindstar_Rising

The company is leading the way in rebuilding a 21st-century England after the People's Socialist Party (PSP), a tyrannical communist government, had first crushed the country and then collapsed, leaving it in shambles.

So.. Brexit I guess. That one does have some neat ideas about 'offshoring', and may have inspired Google's barge building project. This one's closer to reality-

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_Forces

Market Forces is a science fiction thriller novel by Richard Morgan. Set in 2049, the story follows Chris Faulkner as he starts his new job as a junior executive at Shorn Associates, working in their Conflict Investment division where the company supports foreign governments in exchange for a percentage of the country's gross domestic product.

I think Goldman Sachs might have read that one..

I remember there was an environmental campaign about doing something by 2020. I can't remember what it was, but I bet we don't do it.

I find it weird that we're not in the 90s anymore. I still get a jolt when people remind me it was nearly 30 years ago; I'm still there.

Enjoy! And the good news is that it lasts way past 40 for those of us who live by on-going experience rather than to a rulebook.

Er, the 80s was nearly 30 years ago. The 90s is just 17 years past.

See, no concept of time...and a hangover. I'm not counting today. Today isn't a day for counting. I got 27 yrs from 1990 so I've tried.

I remember when 1984 was in the distant future. As for 2000 or 2001, that would have been science fiction.

It has great significance at eighty-four because I have no time to squander and probably will have departed. So instead of wondering about three years time live every moment as if it is your last because it might be.
