The Daily Mail caters to so many audiences at once. How many other publications run campaigns against the "sexualisation of children" for the terminally outraged while writing articles about 8 year old "leggy beauties" strutting their stuff and the sexy curves of 14 year olds?
The DM just want to satisfy everyone. |

The DM appears to be the paper that people love to hate, particularly on here. It seems to make them feel somewhat superior.

It may be morally indefensible but it makes money. Despite the decline in sales and advertising revenue in the print newspaper market, the company's revenue is up and as a result its online operation employs more staff year-on-year.
Of course it's only able to do so because people like it. Or love to hate it. (Oh, and I got the info about the company's finances from the other newspaper we all love to hate. The one that makes huge losses and makes huge staff cuts, despite being morally fairly defensible) |

It is because of the good website.
It is much easier to find articles on the DM website than the majority of its competitors |

Football coverage is very good and extensive down to lower leagues.
But far more importantly - On campaigns, it would take a lot to surpass how the Mail went out on a limb by naming Stephen Lawrence's murderers. MPs of all persuasions and the Guardian recognised the importance of this: https://www.theguardian.com/media/20...nts-daily-mail |

I feel Daily Mail reader has become a useful soundbite to establish a superior socially progressive position
Proggressive doesn't neccessarily translate to good or better though. Both ends of the media are weighted by their personal prejudices and preferences, and both can come across as callous and indifferent around some issues. Personally I think the Daily Express is worse than the DM, which I don't mind reading now and again. |

![]() On the whole, their views ties in with mine and me and my parents feel that the DM express the views of the middle class, hard working, tax paying people of England, especially London and se England. I personally see the DM as a factual and very balanced news/media outlet. |

Good rule of thumb: if you're ever undecided about which stance to take on an issue, find out what the Daily Mail thinks and then take the opposite stance.

Disagree with the poster upthread who says it's "always factual and balanced" but it's had a FEW effective campaigns which fly in the face of it's other predictable rhetoric eg. Stephen Lawrence GM Foods/Science it's current one appears to be corruption & nepotism in Foreign Aid. OTOH it's as effective as the Guardian in scare stories and hysteria .....whilst on something genuinely scary like climate change it's in total denial. ( Meanwhile the G covers climate change well but promotes profligate consumption/travel etc.) |

I will say their football coverage on the website is usually very good. Although even it veers into the ridiculous a good few times.

Nobody ever claims the mail isn't popular. Popular doesn't mean good though. There's a lot of popular shite. Also you have to look a bit deeper into why it is so popular. For example how many people read the website just to see the outrageous articles and have a laugh?

I saw a Daily Mial video in my facebook newsfeed of a little deaf baby boy who heard his mum talking to him for the first time. That was nice.

Just because you disagree with my views about the DM does not necessitate in me getting a "dictionary fro xmas"
