Is she? How many Hollywood stars will be wearing one of her creations at the Oscars this year?

They have been handing out kighthoods and dame thingy's like flippin' confetti this week and poor Wayne is ignored for his "services to football". I mean there are teenagers being given honours and probably a foetus will get one next, and still nothing for Waynaldo.
Should we start a campaign ? |

What has he achieved? Internationally Nothing. He is a good footballer but not one of the greats.
In fact, he is England's all time leading goalscorer, so saying he has not achieved anything on an international level, would be incorrect. |

Speaking of oscars, fashion and success though: Quote:
Victoria Beckham has received one of fashion’s highest accolades: a nomination for the prestigious Womenswear Designer of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards, which are dubbed the Oscars of the fashion world

I would prefer to see Sir David Beckham first of all.
Sir Wayne? - less likely but again could happen given the way knighthoods are handed out these days as he is England's top ever scorer ...etc Listen I will be perfectly honest here - as a LFC fan it bugs me when you look at Matt Busby, Bobby Charlton, Alex Ferguson alongside Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Kenny Dalglish the first 3 all knighted, the last 3 not and yet I would argue that their achievements were comparable - and that does rankle with some LFC fans including me to an extent. If it happened for Beckham and Rooney that would be 2 more MUFC knights compared to hardly any from other teams - Bobby Robson, Trevor Brooking, Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney - are there any other football knights? Mind you trying to be rational about it in former days when Shanks and Bob were around it was probably harder to get a knighthood - and I suppose after Munich and then coming back to win the European Cup 10 years later Busby was a special case. Now they seem far more common place. |

The man who really should have been knighted was Billy Wright.
FIrst to get 100 caps ....105 caps none of them as a substitute Captained England 90 times...still a record. Never cautioned or sent off |

But do we know how many times he dived in two footed, studs showing and out of control? Very different game back then.

As for the non-pool knights, Shankly never won the European cup so that rules him out IMHO. Bob Paisely on the other hand, must be one of the most underrated managers in history and was more than deserving. I have never bought the lie that he simply followed on from Shanks. Look how hard it's been for managers to follow on from Sir Alex. And Daglish has a claim - simply on his playing achievements alone - much as I dislike him. Would probably have had a European cup as manager as well if not for Heysel. Someone else who should have been honoured was Brian Clough. So, in that kind of company, it's a no to Sir Wayne for me. |

. - I do however understand where you are coming from and fully respect the way you have expressed themMost LFC fans of my generation - 60 years old who started watching the club in the 60s - think of Shankly as the reason why LFC ever became a top team as he put all the foundations in place for the DNA of the club and in some ways his influence is still there - or so we would like to think, the reality is that it is less and less so these days, but yes it is true that he did not win the EC so I can see why you disregard him. I do think the word lie is the wrong word to use - it is an opinion and it is one which a lot of LFC fans have. Many people in the game with strong llnks to LFC speak more highly of Shanks and his influence on them than anyone - Keegan, Emlyn, Thommo, Tosh, Cally and others - but then you probably don't like any of them either!! Bob bought very well but I tend to feel the players then were the stars and not the manager - Kenny, Souness, Jocky, Terry Mac ...etc but his LFC record was second to none. Kenny is a one off and a total LFC fanatic and is the most loved figure ever in the history of the club for most fans - and so as a MUFC fan it is no wonder you dislike him (in maybe much the same way as i dislike certain MUFC figures - mentioning no names!!). He is a humble man and he and Marina do a lot for others who has had no off field controversy, but always his total loyalty is LFC and so it is not surprising that over the years many outside our club do not like him. He has 3 strings to his bow tho - player, manager and what he did for Hillsborough and so given how honours are now given out it is a bit surprising that he has not received one yet - maybe he will one day tho I feel like he has gone out the limelight a bit now. |

He may have captained England 90 times but they didn't win anything, or come close. I'm not sure he would have deserved a knighthood for being widely respected. He did get a CBE though which is just one step lower. As for Rooney he wouldn't deserve just it for being top England scorer. His strike rate is nowhere near as good as Greaves and Charlton scored most of his goals from midfield. Generally sports people who get a KBE or DBE have won something very special. If England win the next WC and he's still Captain he would be in with a shout. Otherwise, never. The likely Sun headline should be enough to put anyone off the idea. "Arise Sir Roo" *shudders* |

And that's more than enough praise for LFC legends from me. If anyone wants me, I'll watching a DVD of Bobby Charlton's - sorry, Sir Bobby Charlton's - greatest goals

'Knights of the Roo-nd Table', there's another. I could take up a job at the sun if I just learned to hate minority groups a little more

You're right Alan, lie is too strong a word and even now for the life of me I can't think of a more suitable one - maybe "myth" or "claim"? AFAIK Paisley was more than happy for the players to take the plaudits but you yourself have kind of hinted at what a shrewd and strong manager he must have been to not only buy those star players but form them into a collective unit without a hint of dissent. Plus, Paisley was backroom boy to Shankly so we'll never know if Shanks could have done it without Bob - but we do know that Bob did it without Shanks. Shankly did pull you up out of nothing though, I'll give him that.
I'm glad you mentioned Daglish and Hillsborough. I didn't want to go there to be honest, but I'm not surprised the Hillsborough families were calling for him to get a knighthood after the impeccable way he behaved towards them. I was even wondering whether he might have been offerred one and turned it down, but he's an MBE so I don't think so. And that's more than enough praise for LFC legends from me. If anyone wants me, I'll watching a DVD of Bobby Charlton's - sorry, Sir Bobby Charlton's - greatest goals ![]() ![]() For the record I think Bobby Charlton is one of the all time greats of the English game - I can't think of any who surpass him (not English ones anyway - maybe Scottish ones )
