This is on BBC2 shortly, live from Vienna.

Shower off the Williams unpleasantness from last night by watching this.

As long they don't show too much of the snobbish audience and more of the long-legged dancers.

This is my annual treat I've been enjoying for the past 45 years. I love the music but agree with the regimented audience being too stoic, some of those chairs must be so uncomfortable to sit on for a few hours. They certainly cram them in!!!

My annual treat!

I watch the morning live broadcast, and record the evening transmission of the recorded highlights on BBC4 for the extra 30 minutes.

is it really live?

i mean who wants to be dressed up in their finery at that hour of the day ??

surely it would be better held on new years night?

It's all a bit sinister , I bet when Eurovision drops its link they get the Waffen SS lederhosen on, get lagerred up , crank up the oompah band and belt out Tomorrow Belongs To Me and Sieg Heil Viktoria.

A rum bunch them Austros.

I was amused when the presenter commented on the straitlaced audience, saying you should see them in a minute when they are fighting one another for the flowers!!

More female musicians too - good.

The programme is very predictable, with plenty of waltzes and polkas, but I guess that's what the audience wants, and expects. How much is a ticket? Out of my reach, for sure.

I've always assumed it isn't live and that it's probably one evening in December? All the women are in evening gowns and full make-up.

Re. post #7 - I don't find it sinister really - I don't think it's fair to blame current Austrians for the past. The conductor does his best to get some audience participation going but I suppose it's not exactly Last Night of the Proms for enthusiasm levels. I think the audience are probably very 'well to do'. I think I heard once that tickets are about £1000 or at least in the hundreds.

A while back I feared for this concert surviving in its traditional form as, for a year or two, it went all dumbed down Andre Rieu-like, presumably as a result of his commercial success, such as, for instance, repeating short snippets of The Radetzky. March many times throughout the concert. Thankfully they have now returned to the familiar format that most of us far prefer.
